hey

I'm picking up my new sw next week and I'm debating on a pre studded 1.6 cobra.

What's the opinions out there? Is it worth it for the safety factor. I'm really nervous about running trail studs. With the coolers.

Personally I love the pre stud. Ran it for years on my boosted 290 apex and it was great

I was going to go that way, but my dealer wouldn't give me anything for the old track, so I studded the stock ripsaw.
Put the Tunnel Protectors on, and you'll be fine with studs. I went 144 up the middle.

I have the ice attack xt on my apex and so far I'm really impressed with the bite that track gets. I love it. I have the ice cobra on the sidewinder and don't have enough time on that yet to get a good opinion. Definitely not even close to the same bite that the ice attack xt has on icy trails but is noticeable and does do some good. People talk about the lugs folding over but the lugs that contain the studs are fattened up significantly from the standard cobra lugs so those will still poke into whatever you are riding on. I just wish there was about twice as many of them. The day a 1.5" ice attack xt comes out it'll go on the sidewinder for sure.

I just installed an Ice Attack on my Sidewinder today. I'm a huge fan of these tracks. It went pretty easy but you have to take a lot of stuff off this sled to change the track. I was able to just move the engine oil tank (chain case cover) over far enough to get everything out of the case and everything else went smooth. I had a friend of mine help me because a extra set of hands goes a long way in a job like this. I did learn the only way to get the snap rings on the gears and the brake rotor are to make sure the front suspension cross shaft is out and then you have to pull the tunnel in with a ratchet strap. That and a few other things that I wish I knew before hand would have made the job go much faster.

Hey Joe,
I hope everything went well. It seems that these swaps are not always the same.
Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Thanks for all the input. In the end after I bought the extended warranty and trail studs the cash was just not there for a new track. I'm sticking with the 1.25.

Need some money for gas after all.

Thanks Don I feel much better now knowing I have some safety for icy trails. The swap went great and I learned a lot about this new sled by taking it apart. It is time consuming for sure but I'm very meticulous when I do stuff like that because I hate having to go back and redo things. When I say I'm meticulous I don't mean ROCKERDAN kind of meticulous either. LOL!! I will see you next week.

Dumb question - do we need tunnel/exchanger protectors on the SW with the Ice Ripper? I had an IceRipper on my Apex with the stock protectors, no issues - just ordered the 1.22 (Ripsaw based) track for my SW and wondering if I need to add the protectors too.

I would say yes I have the protectors on the rear cooler on my sled with the ice cobra

Yes I also have the rear protectors and was told they are needed.

I added the protectors on mine running a 1.22 Ice Attak XT. Not sure if they were needed as there is not a mark on them but I run em just because.

These pics are with 750 miles on my IceRipper XT - WTF!!! I had over 5000 miles on my last one with zero issues. The conditions have been good, so I don't know what would cause this other than a defective track. I'm calling Tracksusa tomorrow to see how I get this warrantied. I'm hesitant to try the same version as they may have had a bad run. There are a boatload of the outside lugs missing on both sides.

Sure looks like a defective track to me. I b love both my ice attack xt and ice cobra tracks, holding up great so far.
