Higher octane gas is not really better gas. Higher octane is just more knock and ping resistant. No radical timing or compression on these motors so lower rating is better
Well one way higher octane could be better is with a couple brands, premium has less ethanol. Ethanol gives you worse MPG for example

Sounds reasonable. I was thinking the same thing that this engine would run probably better with regular 87 octane. My UP buddy that has the 2007 ATTAK (my AVATAR in fact) said his dealer told him to run only premo. I found that strange and that's all he ran on our UP trip. Gee......you mean that thing could of been faster yet?? LOL!! WOW!!
PS: another thing...alot of places the 87 octane gas is fresher. Not many cars are running premo if you know what I mean.

I think the side of the sled says 91 RON octane. That is not the octane rating on the typical american pump. subtract 4 from the RON number to get the american number. 87 american octane is the right stuff to use. do a search, this has been discussed before.

sorry i guess your right i dont own an apexyamaouch08 said:bigbigrichie said:why does it say 91 or something different on the side of the sled?
The Better Gas Will Run Better. Like all fuel injection systems Timing Changes are made when running better gas.. elevation ..engine temp ping Knock etc...87 should be the minimal octane rating for this type of high performance engine
87 here you will loose HP running premium,Mine doesn't say 91 on the sled, and I have never saw one that does!! Are you sure you have an Apex?
why do i still have to pay those payments
hmmmmm

what are you getting with 87?

87 octane is all you need. Your wasting money putting in anything higher.

But with a 2 deg. keyway, 91 octane is the good choice???

Just because a gasoline burns faster doesn't mean that it's "better".bigbigrichie said:why does it say 91 or something different on the side of the sled?

This is a low compression engine. Slower burning is more appropriate. Just as Allen's dyno shows that a colder spark plug adds power, lower octane does the same.
There's nothing wrong with using 90+ octane, it's just a waste of money.
