what would 91 have to do with 87, there must be something else wrong, the only difference is that 87 burns slower than 91, that should have nothing to do with starting

87 octane burn's faster than higher octane and if any thing 87 will start better because it will egnite easier although i doubt you would notice any differance from 87 to 91. Race sled's with 116 will not start when it gets cold with out help. You never want to run more octane than you have compression to burn, It will make less power and these stock sled's were setup for 87. This has been beat to death, It is a nobrainer. 87=more power and cheaper in these stock motor's.

I run 87 mostly, but have run premium in it when the line for 87 was too long at the pump. Never noticed a bit of difference between the two except for price.

My friend & I with same sleds tested this argument for a solid week in Maine last year. We saw no performance, starting or gas mileage differences. 87 was always 40 to 60 cents cheaper. Another friend who owns a gas station says he refills 87 tank every 4 to 5 days & higher octanes every 10 to 12 days. So no brainer here. If the sleds are modified it's a different conversation all together. Just my 2 cents; or in this case about 50 cents....to me...

My sled says 91 octane, it's an 06 Apex. My dealer tells me to disregard the 91 instructions, use 87.

Running higher Octane, then the recommeded by the OEM on a stock sled will actually make you lose power.

High Octane fuel burns hotter
High octane fuel burns hotter not cooler. Higher compression engines require higher octane to prevent pre-ignition. Low compression engines do not gain any performance from high octane fuel and only burn hotter.
