So, was planning to do the Stingray airbox mod to my "new to me" 15' Viper, but when I pulled the hood I noticed the box already has 8 of what appears to be vents already installed .(see pic) Anyone know the story behind these, and if they were affective or not? If not, I may still do the Stingray mod and plug these with solid plugs.
How difficult is removing the airbox? Does the whole fan and radiator assembly need to be removed? Or can I simply loosen all the rad. mounting hardware and slip the airbox out without completely removing it?
Thanks for any input

Those are Bullseye brand . Ulmer supplies them in the intake kit that I have on my Apex. Can't help ya with anything else though Dave!

No need to loosen the rad. There are two screws below the rad holding the front of the air box. Pull the aluminum and rubber hoses going into it and unplug the temp sensor. Loosen the intake tubes at the carbs and be you will be able to wiggle it out of there just takes so patience.

Ok, so im going to have to drain the antifreeze and remove the hoses, but can leave the assembly in place? Thanks

No need to drain/disconnect anything on the cooling system. You will be able to shift it around and get it out without that hassle.

I had A 2014 viper LTX that I put Schmidt Bros plugs in the airbox and they worked well. Im sure not as good as A full on air box mod though.

Thanks, I hadnt looked at it when I responded and assumed you meant the rad hoses when you said pull the hoses. I got it now ;)!

Would there be much to gain by further air box mods?
since this is an ulmer mod i suspect he didn’t leave much left on the table for further HP gains with airbox changes

I found them on Schmidt Bros site and they are claiming 3-5hp gain, but Im hearing 6-10hp gain with the Stingray Mod. Its anybody's guess unless someone has access to, and wants to spend the time on a dyno?!?

Didn't know that was the Stingray mod - I did this at the end of last season. Never got a chance to ride after the mod.

What is the Stingray mod?

Stingray is a spring for the front skid shock. Do a search there is lots of info on it here. Better transfer and lightens the front end.
