Been hearing about primary spring issues. Breaking and such. Is there a primary spring out there that works well with the stock weights? Basically keeping the primary stock but just changing the spring. Was thinking of going with the Dalton that is the closest in rate to the stocker. Pros and cons of this? Thanks in advance

Dale makes the bk/bronze for this purpose. Close to stock rates yet better quality and thicker coils, stock spring is not a good one.

Thanks Dan this is exactly the one I was thinking about. I was hoping you would chime in. Much appreciated.

talking spring did you guys test dalton teal ? and does it have better acceleration than stock and dalton green ?

The Dalton blk/red is a little less engagement with a little more final shift than the stock spring. I had no issues with the stock spring and I got 16 miles per gallon with it. The teal spring is too much engagement and final shift for stock components. The helix you choose will also impact everything.

I recommend the Yamaha blue/white/blue primary spring if that’s all your changing. This spring works very well as a replacement for stock spring. It has just little higher finish rate that results in around 100 rpm more top rpm. Engagement is very similar.

That is what Im testing now, if snow comes back. Dalton bk/red (48/120) which is less on top then the bk/blue ive ran all season. Also went down to 3/3 with b/o and STOCK helix to reduce any heat, and got my offset machined now down to 58.5-59mm. I believe this will take away any extra heat, only thing is Im sure any engine braking I had with the setup I liked will be all but gone, but if it gives me more miles per belt Ill be happy.

What ever spring I do choose. Should I still use the thunder products glide washers? I have the glide washers in the stock spring now..

What profile weight Dan? and how many grams?
Remember any washer under a spring changes spring characteristics

I hear ya.....

I have not tested any of it with no snow....dtya1's at 77.3g

It will likely rev around 9100 on 270map, 8700 to 8800 240map. But I need some time to play with it, just trying to reduce pressures down and see how it likes a "lighter" setup, sorta ala' stock.

Very similar to mine. Same weights at 77.5, Dalton b/0 (6-1), Dalton 41/35(so same finish), but blk/blue. I have the blk/red to try if it revs to high. I hope to test Weds or Thurs. We are expecting 6" to 12" Weds into Thurs and still have enough ice on the lake for this week any way. although mine is sm so only 260 hp.

Whats your take on the yamaha blue brown blue. Engagement is closer to the sidewinder stock spring but just slightly higher finish than with the blue white blue.

I've been running the blu/brn/blu all winter with good luck and much better than stock. Engages 2650, great fuel mileage and holds rpm on top. Excellent trail spring, but jury is still deciding if it' a drag race winner???
