Sometimes I like to check out patents filed by snowmobile manufacturers, to see what their new ideas might entail in the future.
Seeing the number of posts regarding rumours of Honda entering the snowmobile market, I did a search on Honda snowmobiles and was surprised to see a number of patents on the subject.

The most recent patent number is 7401816
Looks like they are becoming serious about competing in the snowmobile market, which is great for everyone.

Yeah they have been doing that for years. They flood the patent office with drawings and designs. then when somebody designs something new they sue them for patent infringement.

EWW, those beaver tails look so bad and I hope thats not what honda is thinking about.
Also, if that diagram is accurate, looks not too rider forward...

Doesn't look too recent.. the dates on that thing are from the middle of 2005, so those diagrams are 3 years old.

Heavy...maybe...but Honda know them titanium, aluminum, magnesium, crome-moly alloys, their MotoGP bike weighs in at less than 150 kgs or 330 lbs putting out 210-220+ HP from the 800 ccm engine.....so does Yamaha MotoGP bike
don't have to be heavy because it's a 4stroke, but pricey - you bet.

I don't see where you guys are seeing the beaver tail?? All I see is a rear shock, and somewhat of a snowflap.

They are talking about the trunk area at the back of the seat. Looks like the Doo's did for a while...YUCK!

I thought the beaver tail was part of the rear suspension, not the storage trunk?? I own an 03 rev 007 S.E. 600H.O with the beaver tail. Ski-doo only made them one year. And YUCK is right!

Yesterdays news. Honda been sitting on those pats for a long time. Now is not a good time anyway you aware of market crash? Big 4 will be lucky to make thru the year. I would be happy if big 4 survive in snomo bus. Most likley failure.... would be Polaris to withdraw like they did in PWCs. AC has to survive, Doo market leader & Yamaha has super deep pockets & best 4s line up so big looser focus is Polaris. Hate to see it but looks possible.
