My first impressions of the Vector LTX GT...

Hahaha... No, I got the key-ring from my dealer... ;)!

I sometimes ride with two guys on 300+ hp RX-1's. And NO, I will never turbo my sled, I like everything major on my sled (engine and such) to be stock. I hate to wrench and love to ride. The only thing I might do is to clutch it, although my previous Yammie's has been quite close to my preference. We'll see how it performs once the white gold gets here... I'm more of a touring guy, so the mileage is what I'm after, since the gas-stations up here are few and far apart.

I'm certain this sled will have all the performance I'll need for my kind of riding. ;)!

Have you got any plans for yours? Have you got your new windshield yet?

I haven't ordered the new windshield yet, plan to do that on monday. I found a nice smoked mid-hight windshield with black on the bottom that will look good. I may see if I can find a good deal on the Doo Pilot 6.9 skis since I sometimes ride in powder and the stock, narrow skis aren't the best things in the world.

Aside from the upgraded idler wheels I don't have any immediate plans for any type of significant mods. I usually like to tinker with my sleds though. I thought about picking up an Ulmer clutch kit but decided to wait until I ride it to see if I think it needs any improvement in the clutching department. I'll probably be happy with it just the way it is. I modified my previous sled, a ZR600, but I am done with heavy mods outside of maybe a little clutching work here and there.

Do you have dedicated snowmobile trail systems where you ride? Or is it more back-country, make your own trail type of riding?

It's mostly backcountry, but when I go to Sweden to ride, it's a mix of backcountry and dedicated trails. But none of this riding is on groomed trails, we only have a small groomer to pull behind a sled (Skandic SWT and such), and we have to break trail after each snowfall, so it's a good mix. Therefore I'm glad they put the wide ski's from the RS Viking on this sled, so it will float better. The major problem will be the Rip-Saw, it isn't the best in loose snow. I will change the track next summer, that's for sure... I just hope I won't get stuck too much this year. Luckily we don't get ridiculous amounts of snow in one dumping, so the deepest loose snow I ride in is usually just 2 feet.

The "trails" get beat up real bad some times, so it will be real interesting to see how the Mono-skid will handle the really rough stuff... ;)!

I read that the mono this year comes with a stiffer spring and much improved valving. I took off all of the preload off of the rear shock and it still doesn't sag very much with my 180lbs on it, but it may loosen up a bit when I get some miles on it.

The ripsaw is probably perfect for 95% of the riding that I do. I will wait to see how the closed window track design performs on the trails. There are the options of cutting out the closed windows and clipping or installing the SLP anti-wear pads.

When it is on the jackstand, the mono rear has a very high angle of attack and that is one of the reasons why it stops so quickly and wears on the hyfax, I believe. Once you sit on it, when the sled is actually on the snow, I think the track angle should lessen enough to not be too much of a concern. But anyway, I want to upgrade the wheels just to be on the safe side since they are slightly larger than the Yam wheels and I have read some pretty good reports from owners who tried this mod. I don't understand why Yam idler wheels don't have replacable bearings. As wonderful as all of the attention to details is on this sled, the one area where they skimped is the wheels IMHO.

I like the exhaust sound!

Yes, I know what you meen. If it was just one year they had the problems, that would be acceptable, but for so many years is just weird. What kind of R&D are they doing on the skids? Just developing them, and forgetting about it? The non-replaceable bearings are just silly... Why not make them all replaceable? It shouldn't cost them anything more???

Oh well, if these are the only problems, we will have a blast this year! I can't wait to ride this thing!

You know something, I had great results using Fitch Fuel Catalysts in my mod ZR and I think I will add them to my Vector. I would have pulled them out of the tank on my ZR before I sold it, but I filled it up forgetting that they were there. Oh well...

I have the Canadian 2008 Vector LTX and it does have the rear cooler along with the ones on the side and front.

Metallicat- How does the plug come off the speedo/tach.
I pulled back the rubber and tried pulling it off but didn't
want to force it. . Also tried compressing the detent no luck.

Did you notice much smoke coming from the exhaust?
Dealer says new sleds need to be run for a while to burn
off the preservatives.

Also on the bottom half of the air box at the rear does it have two
slots for the top half tabs to slide into. Mine appear broken off with part
of the tips remaining. Sounded like this was the snap I heard when the dealer was demonstrating how to remove the air box lid. I dont think this will present a problem as the four spring loaded clamps seem to hold it together okay

Hmmmm..... The plot thickens.... LOL

So the Canadian and European version seems to be the same... I guess we got some extra goodies for the higher price we pay! ;)!

Mine didn't smoke at all when I picked it up. Did your dealer run it for the initial 15 minutes before you picked it up? That's in the setup-script...

Huh, maybe I will have to check mine again for a rear cooler!

I am not sure how the plug comes off of the speedo. I also pulled back the black boot but couldn't seem to unplug it.

Not too much smoke from the exhaust, just the normal white vapor when it is cold. Clears up in a couple of minutes.

My airbox also had one of the rear plastic tabs broken on it. I think this happens as soon as you remove it the first time. I removed mine to look at the filter and also heard a snap. But it makes no difference since the 4 clips on the corners provide a perfect seal anyway.

I believe the triple runs cooler than the 4 banger so I don't think you need the rear cooler. But why the Euro sleds and Canadians have them is beyond me................

I also agree on the panel issues. You just never know when you have to get under the hood for something even with a bullet proof Yamaha :ORC

Mine has the narrow ski. I inquired with dealer about the wider ski that the
European ones come with and he looked up info and said he found the part
# but Yamaha Canada said that ski was not available in north America.
Asked him if Yamaha had an option and said he couldn't find one.

I seen where people have put mountain ski on but the parts doesn't show a
kit , just individual parts. If anyone has info what all is needed and what is
transferable that would help.

I also inquire about a hitch kit knowing they were available last year but
Yamaha says there is no hitch available for this new sled.

Ok, I am an idiot - my sled DOES HAVE THE REAR HEAT EXCHANGER!

I thought for sure I looked at it when I brought it home and didn't see one.

I must have either been drunk or dreaming.

Thanks for prompting me to look at mine again!!!

LOL!!! No worries, man!!! I'm glad you've got it too!

My ski's are the same as on the RS Viking/Professional, so you should just need to purchase the ski-bottom, the longer bolts to attach the ski and 2 shim's on each ski (4 in total). The handle and carbide-runners will fit, so it should be a pretty inexpensive switch. I believe the mountain-ski will also fit, but you will need the longer bolts and shim's for this too.

I might be upgrading to Doo Pilot 5.7's. They offer a kit with both skis, ski loops, all 4 carbide runners and mounting hardware for only $239 USD this year.
