Pull start phazer fx?

If I need a new battery for my phazer and I'm in the mood for some stealin'*, then I would be smart enough to bring the allen key.

Or use the one in the tool kit in the other side that does open

I've got a relay going bad in mine, and after watching a buddy have to wrap a rope around his primary on the skidoo last night when his whole recoil fell apart, I started wondering if this was possible on the Phazer as well. Then I found this thread! Makes me feel a little better, now I just need to throw a rope and a handle into the tool bag.

I gave this a try the other night. The sled was outside for 24 hrs on my open trailer and the high for the day was -20c. Once i got the rope on there and it stayed on i had no problem pull starting the frigid phazer.

for a handle ii use a wrench i had in my tool bag.

Just make sure to get the rope the heck out of the vicinity after each pull... Would get scary if the rope decided to rewind itself on the clutch after it started...

It sure would. Just make sure you don't wear gloves or wrap the rope around your hands. and try not to stand in line with the clutch lol.

Also just keep on pulling. As long as there is tension on the rope it unwraps itself.

I have tried a few times to pull start this thing. if it is warm. no problem, fires right up. took a while cold.. I dont believe my sled has the cold start update. I do carry the rope with me though. scares me to stop on the trail have a dead sled.

I was afraid to flood the engine. Every time I pulled and the rope slipped out I could hear the fuel pump pumping more gas into the engine.

Some people tend to forget that, there is an engine decomp system. That what alows for an easy start.

I carry a 1" wide nylon strap with me. Someone on here indicated it is easier to wrap on the primary than a rope and it sounds like it would work...

12 to 1 comp ratio tends to be alittle tough on the rope starting. You are so right Marpolsdofer. Decomp release doesn't work on the without the starter being engaged.

I highly recommend you guys using a strap. Tough enough without the Decomp release engaged.

I remember trying to cold start my buds Honda single 500cc 4-stroke road racer. That thing had a ridiculos High Compression motor (115 race fuel). Talk about tough!!!! Had to push start it. The electric starter would not even turn it over. Kick start-----forget it.

What I did what cut a starter cord off a mower. It works very well and I used it many times when I lost my key, until I got a new switch. I broke open the switch and taped it on run and used the pull start.

Yes decomp is always engaged till motor starts and reaches XXX rpm.But the starter is really geared down.Actually pulls over pretty easy compared to rope on clutch of SRX.

i've said this before and i'll say it again, these sleds are easy enough to pull over, why didn't yamaha put a recoil on these damn things from factory, save us the trouble of jerry rigging while on the trail

Devils advocate.....how many times have you actually needed to pull it over via the clutch? We've only had to boost one of the 4 strokes in our group once, cause the battery puked (it was also 7 years old).
