we know that Yamaha has delivered the best quality in the sled marked for the 10 last years.
Wouldn't it be very strange if they just forgot all about the quality, and didn't care about that anymore ?
Don't you think the yammiproducers know about the issues of the cat ?
Do you seriously think that they haven't done anything with the cat-issue before they put the cat-chassies in their own production.
I'm sure Yamaha have worked a long time of this SR Viper. This didn't happend last december.
I, and most of the people that I know is driving Yamaha because they like driving and no problems. It's not like the cat, doo and poo people. I think they like it best at the dealers workshop.
I'm sure Yamaha have given quality a lot of thoughts.
If not I'm sorry

Guys let's be honest here. Yammie for sure has the best fit and finish bar none, but quality Engineering and top notch components in every model, is a pipe dream. I currently own an 07' FX Phazer and an 09 Nytro XTX and have had my share of problems. Very poor suspension design with little to no clearance up front where the front suspension shock is positioned. My Phazer has had all the updates done and runs well, but the front end design is a joke and the front sub frame is a weak link costing $$$$ to repair, trust me I know. And yes Yammies have left me stranded, just as much as the previous Cats I have owned. A lack of an oil shut off in the my Nytro cost me a motor when the sled was on it's left hand side in a snow bank. So saying Yammie is all about quality I do not agree. There is good and bad in all brands. I am not brand loyal at all but have owned several Yamaha's and Cat's. I have friends who ride Doo's... and lot's of them that have had very good luck with very little maintenance. As for Poo's I cannot comment. Bottom line is that there is good and bad in all brands. Those of you that think Yammie is super reliable and perfectly engineered need to think again. I hope this partnership with Cat will prove to be a success. The sleds look awesome and I am sure they will be a tonne of fun to ride. Just my 2 cents.....

Why did Arctic Cat approach Yamaha to supply snowmobile engines?
We already had an existing supply arrangement for the 120 engine starting in 2009;
this led to discussions on expanding the program. Arctic Cat then approached Yamaha to supply the industry’s leading 3-cylinder 1049cc 4-stroke engine. The new supply agreement is beneficial to both companies.
Why would Arctic Cat choose to work with Yamaha ?
Arctic Cat strives to work with the best suppliers, and one of them is Yamaha. Both
Arctic Cat and Yamaha are proven leaders in the snowmobile industry, by working together, both companies can learn from each other’s strengths, and in the end, the
customer wins with better products.
Is this a long-term strategy between both companies?
Both Arctic Cat and Yamaha have a long-term vision. This is a multi-year agreement
between both companies and it’s premature to comment on any future details or opportunities.
Will Arctic Cat buy other Yamaha snowmobile engines?
At this point, Yamaha and Arctic Cat have only agreed to share the 3-cylinder, 1049cc, 4-stroke engine.
Will Yamaha receive any 2-stroke engines from Arctic Cat?
No.
What is the difference between the Arctic Cat and Yamaha snowmobiles?
The chassis, engine and calibration are essentially the same, although the styling cues, color, graphics, wind protection, headlight and fairing designs are different.
How does development work between the two companies?
The development of the snowmobile from a function standpoint is driven by Arctic Cat. Yamaha is a partner and shares in verification and validation. Both engineering teams work closely together to ensure that the final product meets quality and performance standards.
Will this agreement take any sales away from Arctic Cat?
This is a very brand loyal business, and there are minor differences in the snowmobiles which can offer additional value in either case. More importantly, we believe our dealers are prepared to offer the best after sales support for our customers. The 3-cylinder, 1049cc, 4-stroke engine from Yamaha competes in the 135-hp class; a class that Arctic Cat does not currently have any entries in. We expect to gain share for Arctic Cat customers looking to buy in this category.

I think this is huge step in the right direction for Yamaha, I will give it a year to see the reviews and how well it holds up! I guess for all of you who don't like it, you still have all the same choices you had last year!

I agree. The xtx I own required $100s if not over $1000s in skid upgrades. Issues with the front shock area including the arm all needed to be fixed, out of my pocket, before I could ride "reliably".
Picture a guy with a brand new 09 xtx at the dealer with major track damage due to dumb limiter strap and shock mount design. And Yamaha rep. says throw on some new straps and tell the customer to go home. Dealer was ashamed.
The viper looks good. But will wait for Yamaha to put them on the snow first. No rush to jump...
I will also wait to see what AC will offer. 160hp would be the ticket.
Nytro motor is good and now seems the only reason I bought the 09.
Waiting to see dyno numbers on the viper. Maybe Yamaha bumped it up a little, here's to hoping.

Thanks D, You are one of the guys who doesn’t belong on the new sled, I know the kinda miles you ride and the trails you have. We are working on the evolution of our RX based models and your Apex will not let you down in the interim. Just think of all the dough you’ll save on not trading up… will buy a lot of burgers and gas
I am with you on the EPS. I still love my 4-holer, mega-Float EPS Apex and as much as I like the ‘feel’ of the new sled, I will most likely remain an Apex guy, why? because I really like it and don’t need any more power or suspension… but alas I’m getting old
cheers cr
Guys don't get me wrong I love the sled....I'm just worried sick that the quality wont be there from what we long are accustom to with Yamaha....if it was designed, made and built by Yamaha i'd be the first in with a deposit.. I hope to the snow gods I'm wrong, but right now, if it looks like a cat, smells like a cat, its a cat...

I believe Yamaha will keep their flagship RX/RS sleds in-house. I would expect upgraded models soon.
Here is what I see as the future in my opinion. I believe we will still see an SR Venom to replace the Phazer in 2015 and that the Viper will fully replace the Nytro in 2015.
The cheaper to produce Arctic Cat sleds will fill in those low to mid market areas where Yamaha just can't turn a profit by shipping expensive Japanese sleds over here.
I do believe however above that Yamaha will focus on giving us in-house Japanese built RX/RS sleds and hopefully a new purpose built mountain sled. Those are market areas where higher prices allow the to still make a profit and people in those market demographics are willing to pay more for the extra fit, finish and quality.

As an Apex guy I'm glad to hear that something is in the pipeline. You knew there had to be, but it's nice to see some confirmation. I'm a little bummed he didn't answer my question, which was: Was Yamaha involved in the design of this chassis from day 1? From listening to Wade and Chris talk about it, it sounds like maybe they were.. but then maybe they weren't..

I am currently at the Yamaha dealer meeting.
I had the same questions to my reps.
They have assured me that Yamaha QC will be implemented throughout. Yamaha has sent teams of engineers from Japan to make alterations to cat's plants.
All of the parts and fit and finish will be to yamaha's spec.
Cat needed an engine because Suzuki is pulling out, this led up to the parts/tech sharing agreement between the two companies.
I will try to answer your questions to the best of my ability.

Benwaballs said:Why don't you just wait and see what happens I am so sick of all these new bash threads when no one knows anything! And it's funny that everyone bags the cat when the nytro is just as big of a turd...
Absolutely true! If some you guys don't like the new Viper than don't buy it! The damn thing hasn't even been available for test rides and it is getting bashed. You still have the genuine, 100% Yamaha Nytro available and can go to that forum and make posts about "What are the best skis?", "How do you fix the darting", "How many miles do you get out of a 7.4 gal tank" "Does shimming my skis work" "Should I buy duece bars" "What a-arm kit is the best" What set up are you using with the tuner skis, my sled still darts" "How do I make my sled less tippy". One would think that a sled in its 6th year of production would be sorted out and working well. It isn't and never will be because it is inherently flawed and can't be fixed. If Yamaha could have fixed it they would have but they didn't. They moved on.
Benwaballs - thanks for posting the spy pics earlier this week!

BEST MARKETING YAMAHA HAS EVER DONE!! Never Have I heard as much trash talk about a sled before anyone had a chance to even try one!! As I have always told my sales guys, any talk is good talk! And this Sled will do it. Yamaha and possibly Cat owners will want it because of all the hipe. I have Green Blooded friends who want this Viper because Yamaha is involved. All is great.

I'm sorry but you obviously have ridden a sled with EPS then. The Etec800 shorty that weight less than the viper feel heavy compared the the apex with EPS and yes I had ridden them back to back...my friends on Etec's Rush's and procross all came off the Apex amazed at what ESP has done and EVERY guy wanted it on there sled....
I remember in the 90's guys saying we don't need EFI...carbs are more tunnable...fact is EPS can help ANY sled regardless of weight.
BTW, You'll see doo adding EPS to there 2014 lineup in 2 days...
