Have 4400 miles on '06 RTX exhaust became increasingly louder on my way home yesterday. I think I have isolated the leak to the donuts which appear to be mid way thru my tunnel. What provides easiest access? removing seat? removing skid? removing both? Naturally ......easiest is prefferable. Thanks.

Ya....I've got the same noise happening. I think I may go look into it today. I don't know if I want to know what's wrong until after the holidays lol. I might feel guilty riding knowing exactly what's broke lol.

I debated running it as well but apparently they'll begin to backfire and the fuel mileage goes down the toilet. I don't know if theres any risk of damaging the Y pipe, either. Sounds kinda mean though, gets everyone's attention when you fire it up! Thanks again, Happy Holidays!

mine was the y pipe is broken just past the donut but it still warranty..ouff

Unfortunately one of the welds let go on my Y pipe, it appears as if a combination of hi frequency vibration and extreme temp variation, not to mention repeated ice thrashing .........removed a 2" square portion from the branch once the weld let go.

Fotunately my buddy has a stainless fuel cell fabrication business and was able to fix me up with what appears (I hope) to be a stronger than original, set up.

I dug into mine today...I've also got a busted Y-pipe and 4 missing/damaged donuts. It seems that one of the flanges on my exhaust header pipes is cracked as well....this blows!

I also found that the bolt that holds the transfer rod it is missing too!! Not a good day for Rexy!

donuts

I've decided I'm going to have to drop the back of the skid, and take the middle joint off to move the pipes back enough to insert the new donuts. I'm afraid of breaking off the bolts that hold the flange to the block.

I don't know why the whole exhaust can't be moved back intact. I pulled the muffler back, and something is stopping the pipes to be moved far enough.

Make sure you all tell your dealer or call the 1-800 number and inform corporate Yamaha so we can get something done...this is not normal wear and tear. I am in the process of trying to get 3 titanium pipes covered right now ($280 apiece new) plus 8 gaskets. The number is 1-800-962-7926. I talked to product specialist Ian at extension 7406. He said he hadn't heard of this yet (of course) and told me to take my pipes to the dealer and let the RTA (regional technical assistant) look at them to see if there was anything they could do. If enough of us get on them they should cover this for everyone, pipes and gaskets, and they might even come up with a fix!

Its almost easier to unbolt the flex pipes from the engine. Dropping the skid will also make it easier. The Y pipes have a bracket that will not allow you to remove them unless you take everything apart. Be careful with the new donuts, they are fragile.

I have gone through two Y pipes and two sets of donuts so far. I would be careful grinding the clamps to get them tighter as I think this makes the flares on the Y pipes more susceptable to cracking.
