Question on Top Speed and RPM after 1000km

So an update, I found a nice smooth hard pack lake to run on and in the shortish distance I saw 116mph this time. I'm seeing just under 8900rpm. I'm just too chicken to hold it longer lol I much rather have the 20-60mph acceleration than the top speed I think.

@ROCKERDAN we need you to get a Team clutch setup done and let us all know how-to lol

Definitely do the big pulls(over 90 or so) on a lake....we don't want to lose any Winder owners/TY members. And we don't want to endanger any 'touring' riders. On a trail like that, where its not flat and you cannot see for at least a mile unobstructed its just not the safest thing to do IMO. Im not one to preach as we ride some very tight trails at a pace that most would call unsafe....but just take care out there people. Anytime you are not comortable with speeds that means its typically long past being safe...lol

If you are running good fuel, you can hold that bitch down til she flickers a knock lite...Got lots of guys doing it all the time. But we are also guys who inspect rollers, belts and moveable sheave often. Dont be the guy who gets on and rides it 120 and not checking things over closely after each ride. SCHITT happens fast at 120.

Once on a lake, that whole "nervous feeling" of big speeds is gone, as there is nothing whipping by and you have thousands of feet of wide open space all around.

The 998 is by far the most powerful sled that the average Joe can own now, and with these tunes we gotta just use alittle extra caution... On the trail, stuff can happen 3 times as fast with the winder as it did just one sled ago, due to the big power. Brakes aren't the best on these either.

Be fast, but be SAFE doing it gang.

I feel that it's too easy now to get big power out of snowmobiles. There's a lot of people that don't have the experience they should have for 200 horsepower but can just walk into a dealer and leave with just that. Then a credit card and a phone call and they can have 300+ hp on pump gas. It's kind of scary really. Then you have the mechanical knowledge that is needed to keep these beasts safe and up to snuff. This ease of power isn't necessarily a good thing for everybody.

Yamaha has blessed us with this kinda sled , I really don't think they thought the aftermarket companies would go this far . I remember the early 2000 s 30-40 horsepower was a big gain . But now when u step out on to he lake with a winder with a flash it's over , my buddy has the latest greatest 2 stroke 850 , after 20ft its bye - bye not even a race . But I still think even skidoo will be a while to match the winder ....

I must say I do miss running corner to corner with the throttle tapped , somthing I could do on my Apex & when I switched with the 850 Polaris. But the winder just accelerates to fast to keep it under control....lol

This is my 3rd turbo 4 stroke and the acceleration kind of sneaks up on you when you’re not used to it. Doesn’t seem like much at first then “oh #*$&@, there’s the corner”

Great points. These sleds are very fast,(even though my 2 stroke riding buddies don't like to admit it).
I just can't get over how hard these things accelerate(more so with tunes) corner to corner, and top speed pulls are achieved, it seems, with so little effort.

Just so we are clear the run in the video is not on a trail so no potential endangered riders.

At 290hp this thing is so angry on the trails it's amazing, had the suspension setup by a pro as well so it handles real good, you get out of a corner and it just flies!

Hopefully once winter is finally truly here I can get on a lake and give'er.
