Radiator Delete?

The 13 inches top to bottom is the area that I cropped the picture to.
The 12 1/4 width is probably a little larger than shown in the cropped photo.
The 5 1/2 inch measurement was taken just above the Yamaha emblem on the bottom of the hood.

Please note that because of the compound angles on the hood these measurements are for reference only. If they are going to build a test model they would save a lot of money and time by going to their local Yamaha dealer and using one of their sleds as a model!

hmmm what about from the back side with the hood off? I think we should try to keep the stock "fins" on the hood and rivet it to the backside , might look cleaner?
Thanks for looking!!!!
Why not just wrap the grate that Yamaha put behind the fins to catch rocks and other larger items?

The membrane is designed to keep water out, my concern is if might not flow enough air! There are many different membranes designed to do many things and I'm far from an expert but I've seen our engineers use a selection process when selecting them for use on some of our military vehicles.

Most of their uses were for electronics boxes that allowed air in and out but no water at all. These may be to restrictive and not flow enough air for our need!

well the reason I had mentioned outerwears is because they made the powder pre filters for the old viper and they seemed to do the job. also run it on my traxxis slash ultimate and it keeps the debris down in it. just wished they had an apex kit.

|The reason I was hoping the moflow vent would work is because you have the option of course mesh or mesh with pre filter screen on it. The same screen we use for our intakes on the turbo kits.

The good thing is there does appear to be a few solutions. When you add a supplier or two who are willing to work with you you must be close to one or possibly a number of solutions!

I've seen them used on show cars and hi performance street/race cars, but have not used them myself so I can't say how they work from a flexibility, longevity or ease of use. The video isn't much help either. Perhaps a call to discuss applications and user satisfaction would help your comfort quotient!

I took my hood off and also split where the radiator fin/vent is and put pre filter screen between and reassembled. As I deleted the radiator I wanted air flow but no water. Wish I had snow to test.

IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fan now takes cool air from the front air intake and blow it through the radiator.
Tested today for 3 hours. Ran at between 25 degrees to 35 degrees at 10k to 12k altitude on about 4 inches of snow on the road. The test,
1. Blue Viper radiator delete. 172 to 174 degrees for 3 hours of slow stop and go riding both ice scratchers down. Disclaimer -NOTE: worked for me do not do radiator delete.
2. Red Viper fan reversed. 160 to 174 same conditions but ice scratchers NOT down. My big concern for fan reversal was 10 to 30 mph riding and it passed with flying colors. Disclaimer - NOTE: do not reverse fan connector
I put the disclaimer in as I am still testing. One trip does not a victory declare.

That's amazing!

The four inches of snow on the road that is.

Just kidding, I really enjoy following your engineering experiments. Good job.

Last Saturday I had the chance to finally give my Viper a work out. The Viper ran around 160 to 170 all day in the deep powder. I let it idle for about 4 to 5 minutes and it rose to about 176. The cool air under the hood was a big plus for me.

Now as a disclaimer do not do this as your experience might not be the same as mine, but I am not putting the radiator back in until I turbo it.
