Has anyone replaced the rivets with screws to cut down on the rattle?

Do you hear it when you ride or when the sled is idling?

The best fix is to drop the track and chisel off the all 3 heat shields. They're not needed and no matter what you do you will have to revisit this issue in short order.

I'd say use some short sheetmetal screws with a bit of red or green locktite.

Or like Newcastle Scott says, get rid of them.

Don't do anything, Yamaha spent alot of R&D dollars to copy cat for the true of Heart AC guys like you Jim. Fortuantely it will only Rattle and not leave you stranded. Cat has patents on that and Yamaha didn't want a call fron AC's legal dept.

Just take 'em out, you'll never notice the difference except for the quiet.

I read somewhere that the 05s didn't have the shields anymore. Maybe someone can have a look. Either way mine are coming out because they too have started rattling.

Take them out asap, caught mine last season with my studs. Balled them up by the heat exchanger, luckly no damage. Took a hour on the side of the trail to drop the track and get them out. Looked and asked about the 05's the do not have them or need them.

Familyman, sounds like a good idea. Don't need any coolant leaks on the trail.

If you want to keep them, drill out the rivets and replace with new same rivets, but squeeze lots of high-temp silicon around both sides of it, that'll keep it from rattling and will keep the rivets from loosening off (its the vibrations that cause them to loosen).
