My thoughts are, Clutch development has not been able to keep up with the power that's easily made now days . Frankly I cant believe these clutches are even staying in one piece. Belt development has been is at this point also.... Then you through in all the alinement adjustments you find . Years back alinement wasn't even talked about much but now it is the difference between making belts last some and blowing in a week. The side forces the belt sees know are crazy with 80= gram weights and 250 hp along with ft pounds of torque never seen 10 yrs ago. Everything on a sled has gone so far "forward" in development on a sled but its drive train and the weakness is showing. I look at the auto OEMs, the power that's in theses cars today are crazy and the transmissions are very different to handle all this.. sleds have not been able to change in this area. The belt cant take it anymore ….. I"d say there is likely a solution by the sled makers or a outside engineering firm but it is too pricey.... How bout a 20,ooo$ winder?
I agree, Even in the automotive world there is issues with CVT. Lexus has 600hp with one but it would weigh almost as much as a Snowmobile. Time for someone to make a manual transmission sled at least for Mountain and Racing types. I would buy one.My thoughts are, Clutch development has not been able to keep up with the power that's easily made now days . Frankly I cant believe these clutches are even staying in one piece. I have seen companies use hydraulic clutches in the past on high HP applications. Can this be the future? You can also control them with an ECU…..
Electric is the future. Unless they can make hydraulic around 10lbs total weight which is about all our CVT's weigh -chaincase.I have seen companies use hydraulic clutches in the past on high HP applications. Can this be the future? You can also control them with an ECU…..

Ski-Doo has a patent on a hydraulic drive clutch powered by the engines oil pump thru the crankshaft for about 4-5 years now or so. I've been waiting to see it in production but nothing yet.

Rumour has that 3 all new yama-kitty's for 2020 .... whether a new winder or not ???but you can be pretty sure the 6 Yamaha engineers living in Minnesota for the last 5 years have corrected problems with belt life on artic cats chassis and will be closer to the Apex belt life ....

I change belts at 3 to 5 thousand miles, not because they blow up or are damaged in any way! I change them because they are worn a little bit! I never saw anything like Yamaha's belt life on all my Cats or Doo's or those I have ridden with! So why did they get it so right to have it go so wrong?
No more gear reduction in 3 cylinder and Cat quality. To be fair even the Nytro’s blew belts more than a Apex.I change belts at 3 to 5 thousand miles, not because they blow up or are damaged in any way! I change them because they are worn a little bit! I doubt you will see anything new from Yamaha anytime soon. I can't see them investing much into a declining sport when there are more profitable ways to invest their resources.Rumour has that 3 all new yama-kitty's for 2020 .... whether a new winder or not ???but you can be pretty sure the 6 Yamaha engineers living in Minnesota for the last 5 years have corrected problems with belt life on artic cats chassis and will be closer to the Apex belt life ....

They are either going to be a SUPPLIER or a MANUFACTURER.
To the snowmobile world.
They need to make a decision and stop stringing this decision along.

Isnt it said the first step to a problem is admitting the problem? Have seen many more each year admit we are riding Cats with a Yamaha motor. Supplier now. Hurts my pride for sure but am enjoying the sled. Yamaha awards there dealers a Samurai sword for achievement. Thats what I want to see. They should have bought Cat and painted everything Blue! I like winners and Yamaha Snowmobile is a bunch of losers just posing as manufacturers now. I want my Samurai Warriors back! They are either going to be a SUPPLIER or a MANUFACTURER.
