Why do u think Yamaha is on a limited build only for 2019 ? & pushing all non current sleds ... they want a cleared out dealer net work before a major change in 2020. Unfortunately current Yamaha faithful will have to live with bad belt life & rusty parts until the next around of more Yamaha than kitty sled
Great vid but it only confirms that 1 they are competitors on two strokes and 2 Yamaha has no intent to build sleds again only to continue along the Cat/Yamaha path. Doo's 900/600 is the sled that will strenghten its four stroke sales and increase its market. Yamaha has sold a lot of winders but Doo is now taping into that market and the Viper engine is soon to be dumped!

Thinking about this whole New chassis that Yamaha needs got me thinking.
I think they dug a hole they can’t separate from.
They put there customers on a procross since 2014, has a excellent front end, excellent rider position for the masses.
If they go in a different direction and flop there done!!!. I don’t think they will take that risk considering they never really could compete without serious help from the outside.
I think this partnership forces them to mirror cat on the chassis side of things going forward if they want to be in the sled business.

We are basically on the same page.
They forced there customers to ride Cat.
In the end they will supply motors,
Cat will supply the chassis and drivetrain.
There competition unfortunately is to far ahead for them to compete as a SOLE manufacturer of snowmobiles.
You guys are forgetting one thing. Cat has a front end #1 but the Skid and Chassis while adequate are not even close to #1. What if Yamaha sells a Chassis that is AND the Winder motor and in return gets a 2 st from Cat? How do we know that the ProCross front end wasnt in fact a Yamaha design? Sure looks very similar to the last Nytro race sleds front tall spindles and all. Maybe Yamaha could have sued thier #*$&@ off for that one and came to some agreement? Maybe in the long run we will find that the Samurai's were actually just toying with Cat. I dont know of anyone posting or even talking about the specifics of the agreement but I was always amazed Yamaha didnt sue Cat over that front end and that Doo and Polaris didnt copy it. Someone is protecting that front end with all their might. Past has shown Cat cannot protect any of thier innovations. Maybe its Yamaha doing the protecting?

Good question....
Last year a read an article on that nytro race sled in one of my old snowmobile magazines. Basically they commissioned two brothers ( forgot there names) to design the nytro for snowcross to be competitive. Have to find that article and re read it. Very interesting to say the least.

Just looked into my nov-2006 mags.
They used a vector platform, moved steering forward and up,added ck skid, fox air shocks up front,
Next.... vector platform still with remote res shocks and a single rear exhaust.
Next....single exhaust. Opened chassis,
Phaser bulkhead with carbon fiber side panels, reinforced tunnel, racing seat,switched out front end. This was the beginning of what the nytro is today. And even with this design the Japanese racer at the time was running ANOTHER version off a vector platform.
Once the nytro was developed they went with that front end instead of the prototype in the pick.
Almost identical front end on the prototype that Polaris used on there iqr sled.(compare pics).
Now when cat came out with there sno pro 500, initially it had the twin spar skid but final production, they used there slide action skid from there race experience.
In 2010 Brian Dick was cat’s project engineer for the chassis development.
A huge cross country racer.
He was responsible to design a chassis for the demands of snowcross and XC racing which took 3 yrs prior to 2010.

Around what year were they developed?Wrong front end. Look for the race sled with tall spindles. Is pics around here somewhere. Bunch of them got sold by Port about 4 years ago.
2009/10 they were raced XC and Hillclimb.
$8000 was what each front costed from Yamaha. I believe.

Yep they were the Brothers Grimm who designed the Nytro. I had an 08 and if I had to ride that thing today I would have quit snowmobiling. That was by far the worst handling / riding sled I ever owned. My Apex was much better and my Sidewinder was worlds better than both.Good question....
