I don't like working on sleds and cars anymore Ken. That's why I buy new and get rid of them when the warranty runs out. My Vette only has 1200 miles on it right now and by the time the warranty is up I'll probably order a C8 because the bugs should be fixed by then.I'd bet our hill climb sled has more HP than that GS though .Hope it's over 500 HP ?My buddy has a Gs that he did a off frame refurbish .

It has around 500hp. Very drivable 455 stage 1. Have a picture with the front wheels off the ground and it won a ISCA outstanding detail award. Love wrenching on it, don't trust others. Also have owned it for 34 years.I'd bet our hill climb sled has more HP than that GS though .Hope it's over 500 HP ?My buddy has a Gs that he did a off frame refurbish .

I have driven multiple 850s (skidoo & Polaris) & turboed 900 s . Skidoo or Polaris haven't surpass the 06 Apex motor yet let alone the the performance of the 998 . And for handling , after your figure out the ski pressure on the sidewinder there isn't anything that can touch it ...& they are not near as enjoyable to drive. And the sidewinder clutch engagement makes it easy for beginners to drive ( a draw back of the Apex ) , best of both worlds....

Having a hobby keeps me young, sorry to hear you don’t like the off season wrenching anymore
I’m always learning new things, coming up with new ideas. Doing your own work gives you a sense of satisfaction also. It’s a little different when you just go out and buy something fast. I know my car/snowmobile is fast/reliable because I made it that way.

I haven't stopped doing things. I'm as active as ever it's just the things I do have changed over the years. I used to love wrenching on my sleds. I would go over my sleds and make sure everything was perfect. I always wanted my sleds to look and perform as good as possible. Spending hours in the shop with my friends working on our sleds was something I loved.Having a hobby keeps me young, sorry to hear you don’t like the off season wrenching anymore

Now unfortunately I hate working on my sleds. I do however love riding them. That's why I think I no longer own my Winder. Back in the day when I loved working on them I would have killed to own a sled like that. The rewards for all the wrenching are over the roof. Like many have stated the performance , ride and handling of the Winder are absolutely awesome but it comes at a price. That price is you have to be willing to spend lots of time making sure things are what they should be. A big part of this is the way Cat has engineered the chassis and the other part is there are no other sleds on the market that have this type of power. The big power especially for guys with a tune can wreak havoc on all components and the failure rate will increase with power.
Back in the day I wouldn't have wanted to own anything but a Winder but things change and what we want in a sled changes also. I don't regret owning a Winder one bit and I still will be helping my nephew maintain it and if I can take it for a spin every now and then that's just the icing on the cake.

I agree! Another fun thing is the infamous Cobb job... (usually learned on farms)..what can work in a pinch, like say a broken header pipe into the convertor on a 23 year old dodge ram, and finding out 2400 degree quiksteel sealed it, after welding a small part solid...so far, I'm impressed...totally sealed and quiet. For now..lol!Having a hobby keeps me young, sorry to hear you don’t like the off season wrenching anymore

I agree with both sides in this thread. One day i will lose interest in wrenching too and will learn to be happy with medicore power. Until then its still game on!

For you old guys who don't want to slow down, how do you keep your glasses from fogging up?

Here's my recipe to keep my glasses from fogging up while riding......
One motocross style helmet
One Pair of Roko Quick Straps:
And now the most important ingredient, ProVue Prescription Goggles:
This recipe should yield many miles of fog free riding for years to come.
This recipe isn't for everyone. Lot's of options to check out.

LASIK surgery 20 years ago for this old guy. To hell with the glasses, they are a pain for snow and water sports and most any other sport for that matter.

Hey krm....the guy asked what works best to keep his glasses from fogging up when riding. I simply offered an option that I've been using for many years with great success.
We're all happy for you that you don't wear glasses at your age of 64. You're blessed. I'm a year younger than you and have been wearing glasses since I was 19 and have tried many different options and offered this one as the best that I've found.
Instead of slamming someone why don't you try and offer the guy some sound advice. I'm pretty sure that you've got some.
