Real World 1500 Mile Low Down of new Ski Doo XR-S 900 Turbo vs. SideWinder

Have you ridden the 900t air ride Enduro that is what I bought? Very forgiving in changing conditions.

No sir. That's why I asked what shocks give the plush ride. You like the air ride. Are you always having to change air pressure thru out the day?

Air settings are on the handle bars brake side just hit the button when rider feels need for a change. Change depends on speed of pack and trail conditions. Nice feature to stiffen or soften. Enduro also comes standard with comfort seat which is wider and more plush than standard seat.

Doo's air ride is quite nice for long hauls of high mile touring however when trails start to get rutted up the lack of rebound control tends to make the sled kicky vs an xrs or winder LE.

I found it’s best to harden up to 5 in junk or big studders and moguls which minimizes kick thru the rear suspension. Then dial back to 3 for most conditions. I ride with Apexs and SWs and when I m not leading I watch sleds ahead if getting kicked around time to harden up. Air ride is a nice feature.

Really! He's raced the Soo I 500 twice, oval and cross country and snow cross.
Wow! now you got me thinking I should have raced in those if many of the racers were like him. I probably would have a bunch of trophies.

The throttle on the 900t is so bad he wont ride the sled in sport mode in the rough trails.
He only rides in touring mode.

My sidewinder is so smooth and controllable compared to that fake ski doo feeling.

I would be pissed if I bought one of those and couldn't ride it in sport mode due to the throttle programming.

I have no problems touring on my tuned sidewinder at all.
Just trying to be helpful but I can ride 900t sport mode in any condition just prefer to use all the different modes for a more comfortable day trip. Since you ride a tuned SW it might be beneficial for your brother to research a 900t tune that develops hp more to his liking. To be honest standard mode develops hp very evenly thruout the 900t power band without pulling arms out sockets which is nice on a 250 mile day trip. Dootalk currently is discussing many different tunes for those that want them so he may want to check it out.

I think many here rate their sleds on how FUN they are to ride. If the sled is not exciting to ride, then whats the point?
Snowmobiling is fun to me with a snappy sled corner to corner in a tight twisty piney woods trail. I like the technical trails where riding skill is necessary to swiftly move thru the woods. Also fun to hammer the sled into triple digits on grades and wide open trails. I don’t think I could be happy with less than 150hp 4s power but 150 ponies in a light platform has always been the sweet spot for me. I also had buds over the years that just want to straight line all day long and hate twistys. Wind protection, a comfortable seat and a Cush ride enhances the fun factor. Most OEMs have a bunch of different hp sleds with different 2s and 4s engines different track lengths and shock packages to appeal to everyone. One engine and hp model will never appeal to everyone because the fun factor is different for everyone. Power is exciting to have but can’t use it on most trails. Mid range punch is a must for me to quickly pass when safe and be gone from the traffic and not linger in a crowd of sleds. For me I like it all including powder and trails. The lighter the better more nimble with less weight.

These two guys (STAIN and whitedust1) get it. Well said guys! You've both pretty much captured my reasons for riding sleds.

Why the hell else would we all be involved and so passionate about this sport, and reading all of this fodder here on TY the end of May?

This thread has been a fun ride so far with some pretty entertaining posts. I've always said ride what you like for the conditions that you like and have fun doing it on whatever sled you've chosen to ride.

I've had over 30 brand new sleds over the years and they were all fun to ride. You don't need to have the most powerful highest hp sled to have fun. Every sled has a fun factor and it's up to the individual rider to pick a sled that they will enjoy riding.

I had lots of fun on my Winder and I had lots of fun on my 900t. Both sleds ride and handle awesome. The Winder had more power for sure and if I want that same power I could get it with a tune. Now if I had a tuned Winder there is no way I could get that type of power out of a 900t but then again the only thing that will get that power would be another Winder.

A friend of mine had a 50th Winder with a tune last year and he loved it. I rode it and the power was off the charts. This year he has a 900t on order and it will have a dealer installed Hurricane 195 hp tune in it. I'm looking forward to trying it out and if I like it I may get the same tune for mine.

There are so many great choices on the market today that there is no reason to ride something that isn't exciting or fun to ride. I wouldn't mind owning any of them just as long as it has a 4 stroke engine. I will never own another time bomb two stroke no matter how much fun guys claim they are to ride.

I also have had well over 40 sleds in my life, they were NOT all fun to ride. Got rid of them and got something different.
While I agree power is not the end all/be all, it is a big factor, riding on the bar all day sucks.

1--- I think we are LUCKY to own a sled like the Sidewinder/T-cat---NOBODY makes anything like it,and never has. The sled is addicting for sure. Quirks? Yes, but the sled is so unique we put up with it. Kind of like Italian car ownership. I love riding this sled.
2---I dont understand why people who have had a Sidewinder and decided the sled is not for them feel the need to come on here and justify their new purchase and reason for jumping ship. You didnt like the Winder? Not every sled fits the needs for all people, I get it. Otherwise I dont care why you bought what you did. Be happy with your new purchase and ride on. No need to come here and bash the sled I have chosen to ride.

X10 winder/Ac rides great for me, best suspension, shocks,I ever had ,skidoo way to twitchy front end. I’d worry skidoo’s break especially weak front end unless they strengthened it.

Yep my 17 is a very exciting sled to ride. I use to call it’s stock power smoooth and deceptive, and those shocks are still doing it for me. Now with the mild Max Spool 16 tune, it is still smooth, but no more deceptive speed. Need to respect this power because it comes on quick and strong. I can just imagine what a bigger tune feels like???

Met up with a few guys last year with new 900T. I looked them over and liked the creature features that were pointed out to me. The first thing a 900T owner will ask a Winder owner, “Is it tuned”? Once the Yes is answered they ride on !!

I do the same when we stop and chat with other Winder owners, kind of funny, most are tuned, crazy Bastards !!!
