Recalls or TSB's on the 03 RX1

The previous owner of my sled said there were two "updates" provided by Yamaha that he did not do on the sled.

1) The rivet on the left hand side near the seat. He said they provide a template and a rivet because the factory rivet cuts into the seat so it must be drilled out and relocated.

2) The hood rubber bumper. The hood is contacting the steering collum fascia on the inside of the hood, and could eventually wear through. He said Yamaha provides a rubber bumper and a couple rivets to keep the hood from being damaged.

I was at the dealer today, but he "doesn't know anything about that".

I remember people talking about these problems and your dealer should know what your talking about. I even think there is something on Ty.com about these that show you how to do them. Maybe try a different dealer?

The problem is that this is the only dealer that I know about in NJ that handles snowmobiles in any kind of volume.

New Jersey is not a very popular state for sledding.

I know the updates are no big deal, but it's kind of sad when the dealer is unaware of these things.

Maybe I'll just try Big Moose Yamaha in Old Forge this winter.

There was also a float bowl fix if you had a mountain sled.

Never been to Louden. I hear it can be dangerous, but still fun.

I just do trackdays at VIR, MoSport, Summit, and Pocono. Went out to BeaveRun last year, that's a cool track, too.

I raced the Fusa races at Pocono in 98 and 99. I finished 5th in the Fusa 600 race in 98. In the two weekends I raced there about 6 races I was never able to get turn 1 right. I have also raced at Bridgehamton (ny) Road Amrc. Brainard, Daytona. Loudon, and Mid Ohio. My fav. track is Road Amrc. so fast and tech. very fun. I was able to teach the Hammer shool at most of these tracks.

TurboMike, I found this information I had copied from an old post from NOS-PRO. He basically describes each technical bulletin and gives the bulletin number. Hope this helps you with your dealer.

1.) Hood fix - Yamaha is supplying to their dealers, rubber tips that get riveted to the aluminum frame by the area by the screws. I was supplied 2 rubber parts, and 2 rivets. If they ask, tell them that it is technical bulletin S2003-011, dated 9/04/03. They can print you out a drawing of where it should be placed and what drill to use. Yamaha will only replace hoods, that have damage showing from the outside, (painted), surface from the screws.
2.) Seat fix - Yamaha is supplying 2 rivets to each customer with a seat rip problem, so check yours. They were going to install mine, but I have racing to do yet, and they gave me instructions, where I can do it myself. If they ask, it is technical bulletin S2003-012, dated 9/04/03.

Keep in mind the one thing about Yamaha is they believe in the "if it aint broke don't fix it" philosophy like Rob say's if it aint broke they won't fix it. I know a guy that had a collar pop out on the secondary and Yamaha told him they would'nt fix it because it had not done any damage yet! Even though they knew it would eventually take out the jackshaft bearing and possibly the jackshaft. I guess it's one way to push the extended warrantee

Convert, I'll agree with you on that. Sometimes dealers will go to bat for you, even if its not broke, then they can deal with the manufacturer.

The Dealer should have gottten a copy of the 2004 Tech Manual & A Disk. Both those updates were in it (If he looked)
