So i managed to get a 97 vmax 700 red head for fairly cheap, then i found a blown up assault for cheap. And now im building mounts to drop the red head in the assault. It fits surprisingly well. Should move along a little faster than the tubie I did a few years ago. Some others have done this swap before. I am planning on using the Yamaha primary, 8dn belt and the Polaris secondary. Will setting it to 8dn specs for offset and c to c be ok? Is the Polaris secondary sheave angle different than the Yamaha unit?

Looks like a perfect home for that nice engine!

wow, everything on this build just works. throttle cable is long enough, wiring harness is plenty long. reused all the coolant hoses, ect ect. made the pipe fit with some taps with a hammer. Made up a alum airbox, also got some 3d printed throttle boots. the scale was off in the pic so the new ones actually fit over the carbs.
Anyone have any experience with these amazon cheapo gauges? would like to try to get one of them to work, however all i see is for 1, 2 or 4 cyl engines.

I am guessing those cheapy gauges will be junk and frustrating. I would look at a koso at the min like this for $280:
DB-03R | Multifunction meter - KOSO North America
The DB-03R Multifunction Plug & Play for Honda GROM® features: speed, odometer, trip meter, RPM, temperature, volt, fuel level and a lot more !

That koso looks good but has led me to other questions, it appears the spark pickup is made by wrapping a wire around the spark plug wire. However i have been told that the 700 is a wasted spark engine. Meaning every coil fires all the time on all cylinders. So in one revolution the gauge would see three spark events. The tach would read 3x as high. Whats the answer to this?
option two is it can connect to the crank trigger on the flywheel. I assume the flywheel would also have three triggers (one per cyl) so even if it was connected here we still have the issue of three spark events per rotation.
Also IT NOW RUNS!!!!!

What does the stock Tach use for a signal? On wasted spark coils there is usually a output for a tach, not sure on the red head wiring though.
