Hey guys, I have a bit of a problem......I need to get the spring off this shock so I can have HBPC powder coat it!!!! I got the spring off the front shock no problem, but I can't figure out exactly how this one comes off....any help?????

You need the right compressor to compress that heavy duty spring. I tried the strut sring compressor tools available at the local auto store but it did not work. The jaws did not fit between the spring surfaces, I have an M-10 in my SRX (back up sled). Whenever I had to swap or remove that spring, I just brought it to the local Polaris dealer and had them pop it off for $10, since they have the right tools since the M-10 comes in some of their sleds.

NY AttakGT.....I was hoping that would not be the case, but I guess I was wrong.....I suppose I'll just have to send off the rest of my stuff to powder coat and just send the spring when I can find somewhere to get it off for me. Being in central Illinois, it's hard to find a dealership that knows what the heck they're doing when it comes to sleds.....I realize this is just a shock, but would dealers that only deal bikes, quads, etc. have a big enough compressor???


Without the right compressor you might want to try this.Back off the preload as far as you can then mount it in vice and use a realgood ratchet tiedown going around the vice and one hook each side of shock.Is dangerous of course.

Yeah, I've used ratchet straps before, but not on this 'heavy' of a spring before. So, we've determined that I need to get the spring compressed somehow, but noone has mentioned yet which end the spring should slide off of.....do I disconnect the remote and slide it off that end (I'm thinking not), or does the 'retainer' on the top end come off somehow????

My guess is that once you compress the spring the threaded sleeve will slide down then you will be able to slide the retaining ring down to a thinner part of the shock and pull it out as you would any other. This is just a guess.

I see what you're saying LJ, however, if you look at the pics I have posted, there is no 'smaller shaft' with this shock like you see with most. That's what I mean, I think once you compress the spring and it slides out of the way the thread tube will also slide down revealing a way to remove the coller.

try a couple hose clamps around sections of the spring then loosen up the screw adjustment? could just take someone elses stock spring for trade and send that in to powder coat with the other stuff? then take it to get the old one off and the new one on all in one shot?

Hey, Mark!!!! I never thought of the hose clamp thing!!! Good idea!!!! I just go off the phone with my local dealer a little bit ago, and I'm going to stop by there on my way home from work tomorrow and see what they can do with it. If they want to charge me too much, I'll try the hose clamp trick first. If they'll take it off and put it back on when I get it back for $20 or less, I'll just have them do it I think. I'm going to get the rails and mounting brackets done in black and the arms and springs done in yellow!!!! I think that sounds like a good combo that should look pretty sweet when it's all together!!!!
