137 sw procross center shock spring change

2017 sidewinder 137 xtx le, 1.75 backcountry, slp Mohawk skis. 215lb rider.
Center shock is a hpg shock on this sled and rest are qs3 shocks.
I installed the 160 lb. Center spring and set limited strap all the way loose with spring tightened enough to not rattle. Too much teeter tottering and made steering hard going into corners when chassis unloaded onto front end.

Went to second hole on limiter strap and adjusted spring tension again. Still too much load on front end when letting off throttle.

Moved limiter strap to third hole.
Adjusted spring several times to get a happy medium. Steers great now and not much chassis roll forward when letting off the throttle. At one point I thought it was good till I was in the stutter bumps, it rode too stiff. Loosened up the spring a turn at a time until the stutter bumps were ok but sled will bottom out now when running thru the rough.

Sled corners like it's on rail now but can be better in all conditions.

Should I look for a progressive rate spring and add a rear limiter strap to limit fwd chassis roll? Or just buy a better center shock with a progressive rate spring.

Better center shock whit proper dualrate spring is the best for trail riding this beast:)

I don't want to go with the qs3 center shock due to the issues with the shock body wearing out from spring retainer. How are the elka shocks working for you?

I think that your track hooks much better than any 1.25 and leads to just too much transfer with the heavier spring. Have you tried adjusting the transfer blocks? Otherwise slowing rebound of rear should help.

Hooks up pretty good. Running the hurricane race bundle of tunes.
Transfer blocks are set on 2 with a total of three settings. Also no rebound adjustment on these shocks.
I don't think I'll be able to get the ride I am looking for with a single rate spring and hpg shock. This spring may work better on a better shock that has compression and rebound adjustments.

160 lb Bill Mohr spring that I posted earlier in this thread.

Yeah I don't like that spring, I'm using the cat progressive spring.

This is going to be a case of different strokes for different folks. Some like a lot of transfer and a active riding sled. Others want to rail and smooth. Like a SRX. No right or wrong and neither is necessarily faster at least not on trails. NyTurbo which Cat spring are you using?

Cat 229. Totally transformed my sled.
That’s my other favorite spring. Won’t fit Qs3r though but inc may like it also. Is a millisecond slower to react in bringing front up on throttle might be what is wanted.

Night and day difference in steering, ride and handling over stock spring. Bought a left over 19 and had a chance to put 100 m8les on it before the snow left , first thing I noticed was the shitty stock centre spring. My 17 with the 229 did everything better . Amazing how something so little can make such a huge difference. I guess if I was lighter the stock spring may be ok but at 220 dressed I'm not a real heavy weight.

Yup and there were a few who absolutely hated that spring also. Said was too stiff in stutters. It's tough to please everyone. I do know every spring I have tested in center position it took a bit of adjusting to find the sweet spot and if even half a turn away from that sweet spot the difference was very noticeable. I could find that sweet spot in 15 minutes of riding and adjusting. Just have to experiment.
