I wonder how much that bigger top gear contributes to reduced wear on the bushing?
I am thinking of going to that bigger top gear

If your having wear issues as I did previously.
Buy a NEW chain and upper gear with holes. Run the chain at least 1 turn loose on the tensioner and overfill the chaincase 4 oz over the sight glass. I always used redline heavy shock proof.
Upper Bushing material is not the issue, I have the stock bushing in now, with over 2500 miles and zero wear, 270 horsepower.
I thought it was from running the chain too tight but others here say they have ran their chain loose and are still getting excessive wear.
The only other modification to my setup was I replaced the chain, ran it loose and it’s holding up great. Normally I would have had to replace the bushing every 1000~1500 miles.
If the pitch on a HYVO chain is wrong/stretched it will climb on the sprockets causing upper bushing wear.
Some have had wear issues since driving off the showroom floor others have not. This tells me something has not been manufactured correctly. HYVO chain is a very precise piece requiring tolerances to within a thousandth of an inch. I would not doubt some of these chains have been manufactured incorrectly. I have been working on industrial machinery for many years, seeing many “Brand New” parts that were not made correctly or didn’t work.
In fact things have gotten worse in these past few years.

This is great info & practically qualifies as a sticky.
BTW ClutchMaster.... would this also apply to the Vipers? I have to presume so?

Yes that’s what I run, a turbo Viper.
Thanks for the kind words!

10-4 .
I really want to try a Viper, but honestly, the chaincase problems are what's keeping me from pulling the trigger.

I thought it was 4 additional ounces over 12. So 16 total, which puts it at TOP of window.
What you said is 4oz over window.....just want to clarify.
Im aiming for 16 total to top of window.

But I don’t think that’s what cured my issues, I did that previously and still had major bushing wear.
