I've done this many times but was quite surprised today when I was changing out the hyfax for the first time with my backcountry track on my XTX, the window in the track is not wide enough to let the hyfax through, not even close. Anyone else had this problem......, solution?

Thanx

I always make a window on each side bigger using a raiser knife and a torch to heat the blade up - i believe on the xtx we cheated a little more to one side than the other - they are very hard to line up thru the windows when putting them back in, so be careful and make sure they are sliding on correctly before you pour the coals to them pounding them back in.

Got them out, but it wasnt pretty, did no damage to the track when all was said and done but I would hate to keep repeating this process every time this thing needs runners.

I'm going to take Woolyviper's advice and enlarge a window on each side so it will be a normal procedure for next time.

Thanx Dude

That's what I did also, just widen 2 windows just a little and then just always go back to them again next time.

Tapering both ends of the new hyfax's helped a bunch. I widened the track window about an 1/8" on both sides, seems fairly normal now but when you look at the runner coming through the window its still a tight squeeze.

use some wd40 on the slide when pushing it thru - it helps.

I have the backcountry and my brand new slides wore 70% in the first 30 min of riding! I said the hell with it and three rides later aprox 250miles they are the same, right at the wear line indicator. The sliders that I changed out had more left on them. As it has been discussed to death, they wear to a certain point then stop.

Mounty, i tried that last time. Burnt right through the right slider and into the rail on the front. Gonna have to break down and buy a pile of bogies

The last set of Hyfax's I removed looked like they were worn flush with the wear line, after I removed them I drilled a hole in the thinnest part of the Hyfax to check thickness, they still were fairly thick at the most worn section, could have left them on. When I installed the new ones I drilled a hole in the highest wear section so I could have a reference for next time. You can leave them on alot longer than you think, I'll know for sure next time around.

i am having the same problems with burning up slides. i got about 1600 miles on my first set with the stock ripsunk track and than got about 300 miles on the new beefed up slides that i installed with my backcountry and its on the tip up point so it seems like i am going to have to put new slides on every time i ride lol, just another excuse to spend more money on the ole girl and make up some wheel kits
