Elka is way off in tech for this Single shot skid which is 129" and 146" ..Go with Hygear on this one. Elka put that kit out without testing. And users here had issues with binding and other things. Also Hygear's shock it much better bigger and has the spacers as well as coupling blocks to prevent binding from the OEM blocks. When I installed my Hygear this week I saw what why Hygear made the couplers.. thanks to them.
it's 129" and 146" see here. https://www.snowtechmagazine.com/2016-yamaha-lightweight-singleshot-rear-suspension/
There is a slight difference in position of the wheels, etc. Same shock etc goes in both without alterations. See here..

I had fitment issue with my elka stage 4 shock. The stage 4 shock has a resevoir with compression and rebound adjustments.
The resevoir would hit a grease fitting on the rear skid arm. Elka replaced that end of the shock with a offset for the resevoir.
They fixed the issue for free and the shock has performed excellent ever since. This is on my wife's sled. She liked the rear shock so much that we also put the Elka stage 4 shocks on the front end.
I have not been on a sled with the hi gear shock in it so cannot comment or bash the shock you have purchased.
Hurricane performance sells Elka shocks.

Good points... Is the Hygear worth the extra cost? I think so.. combine the spacers, larger shock, proven design, coupler blocks that fixes Yami's binding in that skid..

How much different are the coupler blocks compared to the stock ones and what effect do they do for the suspension?

they sell them separately. The arm area shown in the picture doesn't lay against the blocks evenly in OEM build. Check yours out and compare. I saw it on mine.. After Hygears blocks It was plain to see the benefit. ORM's blocks creates a kink were hits ..kind of like a pointed object poking a spot along a bar effect. The new blocks are Aluminum for one and not plastic and are aliened so the arm lays or rests evenly during contacts.
See time slot 00:28 to see the action against those blocks. In this utube link

When installing these new blocks from Hygear is there any original parts that stay mounted to the rails. Looking at the diagram of the rear suspension it looks like there is a mounting plate on inside of rail.

When installing these NEW Hygear blocks, is there any orginal parts that you use with the new blocks. In the diagram of the rear suspension there looks like a mounting plate that goes on the inside of the rails.

There are a few parts you reuse. In the directions on Hygears site for this shock it tells the install etc in detail. I don't think there is a mounting plate you fool with.

Replaced my original fox shock on my 16 Apex with the updated shock. Just got back from a ride. The updated shock is nice and way improved over the original. Although I was able to get the replacement shock from my dealer, I’d say it’s worth the $499 for the updated shock. Dealer said the shock is worth much more than that price.

I am talking about the Hygear blocks, not the shock install. I ordered the new blocks but there are no instructions for the install.

So I called Yamaha customer service. Their in California so It was not too late to call and they told me the same thing the service bulletin only applies to Apex. Even though I told them it is the same part#. So they told me I have to take it to the dealer and have them call or e-mail Yamaha and tell them the shock is defective. My purchase dealers on the first and 2nd one are 70 miles away. Great customer service. Not! The nearest dealer 25 miles away last year told me 6 weeks to get an oil change. Because he can't find help. Maybe he should pay more than $20.00 a flat rate hour! So I changed my own oil. I would have bought from them but they did not have any in stock. I just wanted to document the oil change. Thank you again for your reply. But just because an Apex costs more than a Vector should not determine who gets this problem fixed. So now I have to load up the sleds and show the dealer that when the airshock is set to the correct pressure according to their owners manual. I can only get a 1/4" sag when standing on the rear of the tunnel and rocking from side to side. I have tried lowering the pressure only to have the track balloon and rub the bottom of the tunnel. I am very impressed by the build quality of these sleds. But they obviously did not do proper R&D on these suspensions. So can anybody tell me that their YES warranty did them any good? Would love to here from you before I buy one for my 2nd Vector.
I am in the process of making a YES warranty claim for my 2016 Vector XTX that has a blown rear shock at 639 miles. I am going to use the above information to better inform the dealer doing the repair and submitting the claim. They were unaware of the updated shock (8LB-47480-00-00) until I sent them the attached Tech Exchange document below. I would note that the date of the document is 2/23/17 and shows all the Apex and Vector models for which the updated shock is applicable, which in and of itself contradicts what Yamaha told you. (I'm assuming you spoke with them after that date). I'm currently riding in the Rangeley, ME area and I was fortunate that the shock did not fail until the end of yesterday's ride as I was backing up, positioning the sled to load onto my trailer. When it collapsed it also sucked up and tore off the snow flap. I'll post when I get a response to my claim.

Sorry to hear about your shock. Makes me nervous as I have 868 miles on my 16 XTX. Someday I will have to pony up and buy 2 Hygear single shot solution kits.

I have the Hygear. Nice setup and I don't worry at all now about blowing out a shock or whether the air pressure is still the same due too varying temps.
