Does anyone know of a aftermarket alternative to the Yamaha ring free product? Just bought a 350ml(12 fl ounce) container of the stuff.......19 fricken dollars, that is insane!!!! Can not aford do use this even though it is recommended by other members of our site!!
There must be a knock off of this product, same "ingredients" different name!

I use seafoam religiously in everything I own!!! Would it do the same as the "liquid gold" ring free?

13000+km on my sled and never ever have had it move from the max mark on the dipstick between oil changes so i would say seafoam works just fine

As far as I know, Ring Free Plus does something Seafoam does not, which is offer protection against the corrosive effects of ethanol.
Yamaha's website indicates protection for several soft metals such as silver solder, copper, metal and aluminum.
http://www.yamaha-motor.com/yamalube/ca ... ductscroll
Also, don't forget the mixture ratios. Ringfree Plus is highly concentrated.
Seafoam I believe is mixed at 1.0-1.5 oz per gallon of fuel.
Yamalube RingFree Plus is mixed at a ration of 1 oz to TEN gallons.
So $20 worth of Ring Free Plus will treat 120 gallons of fuel. (454 L)
This works out to about 16.5 cents per gallon or 4.5 cents per liter.
Seafoam typically costs $10 ($12.50 CDN) for 16oz, but only treats 12-16 gallons of fuel. (depending on what you want it to do)
So the cost for Seafoam is actually four times more expensive than Ringfree Plus at 62.5 to 83.3 cents per gallon or 16.5 to 22 cents per liter.
PS - I work for Yamaha and I use Ringfree Plus in my sled, boat and even my wife's car now and again. I have never used Seafoam.

Yea like disco said, that whole bottle is good for 120 gallons, thats 10 tanks of gas, quite a bit IMO, you dont have to use it every tank

do you really need to use this ring free or sea foam that often? seems like most folks (myself included) run nothing and are just fine.

I have used Seafoam rarely, less than 1-2 x per year usually for storage. I have never used any oil. Nor any smoke.

Unless you have run without using it for a long time (3+ years) I would just run it in 1-2 tanks at the end of the year

Read the mixing instructions & you are correct, this is very concentrated, so the little bottle goes a long way, lol!!!! I buy my fuel from Canadian Tire & they claim even their regular 87 octane fuel contains no ethanol. That being said, I shouldn't have to use the ring free on every fill do to the fact that I don't have to worry about the "corrosive effects of the ethanol". Just use it every third tank or so just to clean the carbon & what not.DiscoRR said:As far as I know, Ring Free Plus does something Seafoam does not, which is offer protection against the corrosive effects of ethanol.

You can use Ringfree Plus in every tank (won't hurt anything), but you don't have to use it in every tank.
I use it once a month, or when I don't trust the fuel source (up north) to minimize carbon buildup for maximum power.
I also use RF+ and Yamalube's Fuel Stabilizer + it in any gas powered engine that I am storing for more than 30 days for maximum ethanol protection.
If you guys want more info on ethanol, let me know. I've got a bunch of info here.

87 Octane is great for an older Apex, and I too try to use ethanol free fuel whenever possible.
But I run premium in my '11 Apex as recommended for max power.
Most premium fuels in Canada have up to 10% ethanol, except Shell and maybe Esso.
I'm always hunting for Shell Gold for the Apex. If I have to use something else, I add a little RF +.

claims no ethanol in any of their fuels, low grade up to premium. It even says so right on the pump! Not sure how long they will offer this but I will keep buying from there as long as they do
