I just bought a used Apex mountain and when I am cruising along say 60 and give it full throttle the rpm's sky rocket above 11 and the rev limiter starts kicking in. i hear alot of talk from apex turbo owners adjusting their boost to fix this. My question is why are the RPM's on my stock apex going so high? Is this normal or something wrong?

If it is set up for deep snow up high you will hit the limiter down low especially on hard-pack.

Went out again today
Pretty sure it is my clutching as I was going 85 and let of the gas and did not coast at all, it seemed like it was engine breaking the whole way. Does that make sence?

Apex mountain isn't set up for high speed, i'm amazed you got it to 85.
Also, it doesn't coast off the throttle, it throws you over the handlebars, there's too much grip between the sliders and track. If you want it to coast you should run hyperfaxes for less drag on the sliders, it'll make your track more slippery. I have an almost new pair for sale if you are interested, they worked great but I switched to different rails over the summer.
If you want it to run high speed, and if you are hitting the rev limiter already, maybe the easiest solution is to get a 22T upper gear, this will put more load on your engine which will bring RPM's down, and it will give you a higher top speed.

its because its a mountain...
i went through this when i bought mine 4 years ago..no its not messed up...they will do it in deep snow too...or even when you climb...the only time it didnt do it..was when i rode in BC...when we rode it was above 5000feet..and it never did it...i even ride in mont valin..and its not high enough there either...i can tell when it will work..my gps says when its high enough..you can get clutch weights from yammie...and then it will not over reve,,but lose some power when you go up in the mountains...no not the hills around here..the ones out west...where the sleds are made for..

OK first off the drag he is feeling IS engine breaking and has very little to do with the sliders! These 4 stroke engines do not "rev on" like a 2 stroke they instantly drop back to near idle once the throttle is dropped just like your car.....this is what causes the "braking" feel! It is normal and will eventually get a little better with break in and you'll get used to it. Some guys have changed the clutching through test and tune and many hours work to help this a little but it will always be there no matter what you do. This is why Yamaha came out with the high idle fix for the Nytro's to help the engine breaking and why Cat and Doo have their own version to fix that feeling you get when dropping the throttle.
Now on to your rev limiter, what elevation do you plan to ride at....will you be riding at higher elevations through out the season or continue in this area at the same elevation? If your going higher you might want to leave it alone and see what it does when you go up if your NOT going higher call the dealer and tell them the clutching set up is for higher elevation and you need the lower elevation set up and they should fix it for free. Also request the 20 or 19 tooth top gear......it pulls like a frieght train!
If you have owned it for a while or bought it second hand then you'll have to do your own clutching changes, lower your primary weight to drop your RPMS. The best set up for the cost is to call Tom Hartman from Hartman INC. and he will go over what you need and he is THE BEST! http://www.hartmaninc.com/clutchtips.html
This is the clutching tutorial on his site, this will help you understand some of the function. His web site isn't the best but believe me he IS the best, search the name HARTMAN and you'll see. Good luck.
