Hi everyone, I put in a set of RSI grips and elements on my 09 Nytro XTX last Dec. My left side had quit working and the grips had worn through so I changed everything out with new. Soldered connections and put heat shrink tubing over the joints. Was out this weekend on a poker rally and the left side quit working again. Just looking for everything to check before ruling out the element again. It seems strange that the same side went again.
I was very careful laying the elements on the bars when I put them on. Used air to put the grips on. Bars were sanded smooth and cleaned very well before installing the new elements.
ECM controls them as I understand. I seem to remember something about it controlling it thorough the ground circuit. I may be wrong on that though.
Wired them up Red to Blue as per instructions and advice on this site.
No codes showing up on the display. Didn't last time either.
Right side element still works fine.
Any helps is always appreciated.
Was going to check resistance tonight when I went to the shop but my multimeter had been hijacked back down to the house.

I lost my oem left grip heat the other day. Had to ride 50 miles at -17 c back to camp...that sucked. Next morning, in heated shop, swapped the right and left side Yamaheater connectors...still no heat to the left which told me it was the element. Took off grip and peeled off element. But before I did this, I noticed that the left grip, at the hook area, was loose. It would twist quite easily. Looking at the element, we could see where it was ripped a little. Figured as the grip was turning and twisting (since I use the left side grip hook way more than the right), it tore the element at that spot. We had a set of basic symtec grip heaters we all use on our dirt bikes, and wired it to the original lines and away we went. It only covered the straight part of the bar (not the hook), but It worked better than my oem element on the right...and my Yamaheaters worked w it too (almost identical ohms on each from a multimeter)
I googled left hand elements on nytros the night before we fixed it...and there are a lot of posts out there with this issue. Roc also helped and said it is very common that when the long elements are put back on the hook area, there are kinks in the material..or raised spots, and when the grip is put back on, they bind and twist...then break or snap at that spot. I figured thats what happened to mine over the 6 yrs of using that hook

It sure seems like the left side is more prone to failure. Maybe because of the throttle we all handle the right side differently.
I did a resistance test this morning and I had 6.6 ohms So that's telling me that only the one circuit is intact. Other side is 3.5 I think it was. I highly doubt that the wiring came undone so it's most likely a burnt or cracked element.

ohm it out is the first step. I lost the right side on my 10 last weekend.

I rolled the grip off this afternoon and sure enough on the front side there's a little black spot. It's on the white circuit. Talked to the dealers and they phoned rsi about warranty. Said there is no official warranty policy but if I sent the old one back I could maybe get a new replacement. There was no creases or folds where it burnt out. There was some smaller spots near the hook ends that were not quite smooth. That's where I expected it would've shorted out but it didn't.
