The ensuing fire will let you know and the black smoke is a dead give away! but seriously the hood will go soft and start to collapse in that corner. It may not be an issue if that sled has any miles on it since the turbo install. the mat is just added protection to keep the heat away from the plastic. You can get it at most performance stores.
