RX1 "squats" when you put it in reverse

My 05 RX1 (1800 miles) squats if you want to call it that when you put the sled in reverse. As soon as you put in reverse and drive a few inches the rear just seems to fall and the mud flap goes under the track. This happens regardless of rider weight. It does it with a 160 pound rider and a 250 pound rider. But if you are off the sled, and put it in reverse and walk it backwards it is fine.

When rider is on sled and attempts to reverse. (sorry about the poor mspaint representation)

I had the same problem. Bought a "short" flap from my dealer. Problem solved!

This does not seem like a sensible solution. I haven't seen another sled do this. Its almost as if the rear of the sled just falls when you put it into reverse.

A possible problem with a rear suspension component?
I Cut my rear flap because the length is too long and I would run it over also and there is nothing wrong with the sled or the suspension! But the flap is too long! Most people have this same problem. I have a 2004 Warrior.

It squats because there is so much weight and drag from the front end. As paddocm said, simply put a 12" flap on or cut 4" off the present flap. This way I can back my sled off the trailer and not suck the flap into the studs. I have 12" flaps on both my Yammi's. This also happened to a Rev that I onced owned, a common enough problem.

Same thing here, I was quite often catching the stock flap in reverse. When this would happen, it felt to me like the sled was squatting. I switched to the shorter flap, and problem fixed. Some folks had concerns the shorter flap would affect cooling, but this has not been a factor whatsoever.

Fixed mine by installing new style snow flap. Wont grab it any more!

The sled just squats when put in reverse and backing up. Then the flap hits the snow, then the flap is jambed onto the track, then the track forces the flap up inside the tunnel. Most folks back off the trailer on their first trip into snow and bend the support plate and flap down right off the bat. Then, even the Short flaps can get in the studs. Also, even the shorter flaps can not overcome backing into 6" of snow.

I think the Monos may do it more than the older RX-1s. If your sled had OEM reverse, it should have come with a shorter flap.

Also, once the flap is sucked in, the flap support plate is probably bent down. The Support Plate is supposed to help keep the flap up out of the track. Take a hammer and bend the support plate back up. Make sure you have the shorter flap. You can also add a strap from the bumper to the flap to preclude it from being sucked back up in the track.

My Rx-1 M sucks the flap up when I'm going fast. Say 130km/h+ and the wind from the 2 inch paddles just suck the flap right up into the tunnel. After reading this I probably will cut the flap so it won't be able to touch the paddles when it bends into the tunnel, better than getting off after a high speed run and pulling the flap down.

If that was done wouldn't it break off or tear out of the flap along with a huge chunk of it while backing into deep snow. Breaking roads around here after 3 foot powder storms usually involve ramming into a road and then ramming your way back out in reverse which involves a lot of butting because the snow is to deep. I think that for me a strap would be bust off in a matter of oh say 15 - 20 mins. Besides more fun when you can have a snowball fight when your flying down the trail, nothing new to me and my buddies.

I installed an Apex rigid flap on mine, had the same problem unless I was in hard pack..... Once the Apex flap went on, no issues since... good luck!!
