Is this the one you had a problem with ? View attachment 158209
Or the 2.5 “ trail muffler?
No that is the 3" Sandale.
They had issues with the 2.5" Trail muffler coming apart inside.

Update. I just wanted to clarify Dave from Hurricane warranty/repaired first muffler no charge out of optimal customer service and is willing to do the same with second muffler just waiting for down time to send. I’m also interested in this 3” sandals trail muffler compared to 2.5”trail muffler noise wise and if drones at cruising speed.
thanks Pan

Pan,
Noise is very subjective, what one thinks is fine, another thinks is not bad at all. So I'll give you my opinion. Sandale build very high quality stuff for certain.
My buddy runs the 3" Sandale and I think its pretty dang loud. He is forced to wear earplugs or get a headache. I tried the 3.5" Outlaw I which was supposed to be quieter and couldn't take that noise either. IMO they are both too loud for my taste and obnoxious when going thru town. That said, I bought a new Viney Fab 3" muffler this spring just to try, it is supposed to be the quietest 3" out there and I believe that to be true. It too is built well, when I first ran it a week ago in the field I didn't feel it was that loud at all, I then ran my buddies sled with the 2.5" Hurricane trail muffler back to back and did think it was still a bit quieter than the 3" Viney Fab. So no doubt even the quietest 3" Viney Fab is still louder than the trail muffler. I will keep trying the 3" Viney Fab but am pretty sure once I start hitting the trail I will go back to the Hurricane trail muffler. Honestly, I'd like even quieter than that some days. I figured I wear ear plugs even with the Hurricane trail muffler, I may just as well go to the 3" Viney Fab muffler, but right now I'm undecided, we'll see how it is once I can put some real miles on with some longer days.

Good to hear on the VF 3", he built the header, intercooler and fuel cell for my ProMod 998, good guy. I had to sell my Sandale 3", I was wearing ear plugs and just hated it. I got stock muffler tunes from Hurricane last year for a family trip and it's nice. It is slower and it won't hold RPM as long, the heat must be really bad in there! It's good for one short blast and then it starts to lose RPM if you keep doing it. But for trail it's great to be quiet. I think a 3" straight pipe for the lake days is all I need with the SS 290 tune.

View attachment 158433 VF 3 looks to have same make of magnaflow car muffler
Same brand, however the VF is a much longer and physically larger muffler, making it less offensive than the short and smaller body. One thing I hate is loud mufflers, I feel the VF 3" is the least offensive straight thru mufflers I've sampled. I actually thought it would be louder than it is. I'm surprised it is a quiet as it is for a 3" straight thru muffler. The longer and larger the muffler, the quieter it will be.
I have seen some 3" modded stock mufflers out there now, I may have to do one up and try it, but I'm not seeing big power differences between any of them like some are reporting, so not sure it's worth the effort myself.

The Outlaw I is made from the 3.5" Flowmaster with the double inside cones. It's very loud IMO. Had one on for a day, and couldn't take the noise myself. I was embarrassed with it on my machine going thru town cause I don't like being that guy.
