400 miles on my SRX. 1 first belt blown after using alignment tool and removing 2.9mm.
Thats not good.
I feel they need a heavier driven spring with MORE side pressure, a straight helix and not a reverse helix, and the 8DN belt to make it more durable.
What are you running for clutching?

hey dan that's good news on your set up what is the ultimax belt your running? also what did you do to your transfer ? thanks mikeI hate to even post and Jynx anything...But we just are starting to get local trails open, lakes are all killer now....Rode all weekend, ran it pretty hard corner to corner and lakes with the new Ultimax, Lowered Hurricane offset, Little to no float setup as Ive posted. So far so good, clutches are a good temp, Primary moveable sheave is near COLD while rear fixed sheave is pretty warm(heat transfer?) and secondary is just warm to touch, but can easily hold hand on it solid. So temps seem good. Little to NO belt dust with Ultimax compared to JUNK 8jp which I am so glad Im done with.
Lots of 270 map corner to corner, and then drop to 240 on lakes for longer WOT runs, as the newest version from Dave has ZERO knock for as long as I held it(3500 ft or more) with 87 octane! Kudos to Dave in the updated version. I find it boost a tad more initially(15psi) then settles back to 14.1psi. Its a tad less the previous version which ran 14.7 for me always, but it would knock on 87 after 2000ft or so. This is really nice, and still ultra snappy down low as its a Race version map that has big early spool. Pulling my 77.3g Daltons at 8800 now, but it was COLD temps all weekend.
All is well at moment...Pounded her through some real serious 4 foot junk, and then rode some mint hi speed stuff, and lots of perfect lakes all weekend....Not alot of trails connected as of yet, so not a huge mileage weekend but close to 300miles total now on this setup. My fave new thing is the transfer, Swapped with Dano and watched him on mine just snap nose at 50++ on lake and haul the ski's at will....my god the giggle factor is crazy now...lol
Next weekend will be lots more miles, in Qc....calling for HIGH temps of minus 25f!! Lows of 33 below F! This should be a test for this sled, and its starting ability.

I exploded my first 8JP belt a week ago at 175km/h and it looked exactly like Mototown. I was running the Black/Tan spring at 3-3. In my opinion that belt broke because the best had already been put of it. 780km of hard on belt testing and high speed on loose stuff. Clutch were aligned with Hurricane tool. After the broken belt I mesured the offset with a straight edge. I dont have my notes with me but from what I remember it was around 58mm. I also took some mesurements of the belt vs the straight edge at full shift and decided to add 1mm shim behind the secondary. So At first I removed 3mm behind the secondary, and ran it with only 1mm shim. Now I replaced the 1mm by a 2mm. I run with about 1mm of float.

Progressive helix with TP orange spring. Tons of side pressure.

Yep, maybe too much with that spring. I haven't had one in hand, but I think that spring is .212" wire or therabouts. It builds a lot of pressure as it travels to full shift.
Progressive helix doesn't tell me much. Whats the angles?
You may be better off using a 8DN with that heavy spring.

KMS are adding up now.....1000kms on new offset, float removed, Ultimax.
Near zero belt dust and ran a ton of hi speed lakes, trails all weekend in VERY cold temps, mostly all 270r map....Lots of long lakes(5 to 10 mile) from lake to lake to lake(Muskoka has tons!) and avg speeds of 75-90 over and over.
So far so good....touch wood.

What's the thinking on removing float... Are you thinking convertor floats out and stays? Might you be getting the same results with the offset adjusted and still float? Thoughts? Thanks

Hard to say with 100% certainty. What's the thinking on removing float... Are you thinking convertor floats out and stays? Might you be getting the same results with the offset adjusted and still float? Thoughts? Thanks
I just found that after machining, the overall float is increased to 7mm(4mm over stock YAM float setup) and then when using a BOP adjuster, there is another huge amt of float in addition to this.
Now, does the secondary try to move outward on decel? Maybe, maybe not....but if it did, that is WAY off by many many MMs.
Back in the day, I locked down my Apex float too...
This 1 to 1 alignment Dave has felt to be best, sure seems to be working well so far....now is it just the ultimax compound, or the no float, or the offset that is doing this?..... that is the million dollar question.

Belt is still looking great on my SRX 523 miles stock belt stock springs and helix.
Dalton ramps 290 tune pulled 128 speedo maxed out stock gearing pulled over and clutches just warm enough that I could leave my hands on them for a few seconds after several miles and then pulling the top speed.
Belt doesn’t quite run to top of primary tried to upload a pic but says to big.
I do have a floating secondary setup from TD but never installed yet.

I removed 3mm from clutchs & now have 1mm float in secondary. I'm at 58.5 mm with secondary pushed tight to circlip .so clutch runs from 58.5 to 59.5 mm . I tested 8DN belt today ( conditions were not ideal lots of wind) but clutch RPM s seem to be more consistent & smoother, but still need to test on better trail conditions, & I will be switching out the top gear from 21 to 22 .

With the 8DN I would certainly run the 22 gear. I think belt life will be very good.I removed 3mm from clutchs & now have 1mm float in secondary. This season I have the updated b/o, set now to 80 degrees(6/2) which I feel is more then the old b/o at 70 by a few lbs.
I liked my 39/35 but been running a 37/35 which is just a tad more snappy for me. Ultimax sure seems to hook hard, sheaves clean as whistle.
I really don't want to talk to much about it and jynx things, so end of season will be when I feel better, and its looking like a much higher mileage season then last yr as temps are to remain very cold at least for the short term.
As I've been saying, time will tell....TP rollers and weight bushing all feel good so far too. (2100 miles on sled, approx 1500@270hp++)
