Second ride report

All I have to say is....SICK! I am not a huge fan of deep powder riding, but just knowing you have that much snow makes me want to throw up.

Hi Nikolai,

First, thanks for sharing your experience with your Nytro MTX.
Can't wait to ride mine!

I'm no expert in clutching but if you had the Yellow-Silver-Yellow
(Preload of 35kg, Spring rate of 2.5 kg/mm, Total force 118 kg @ 33mm)
in the primary and that you where under target for RPM,
I do not think that putting a Blue-Brown-Blue
(Preload of 50kg, Spring rate of 2.0 kg/mm, Total force 116 kg @ 33mm)
will solve your problem!

It should load your engine even more therefore driving your RPM down!

What I suggest is to put more miles on the sled (300-500 miles) to make sure
that the break in is done and then work from there!

Don't forget it's a 4stroke with a new engine
and I think you have to let the engine come loose
before playing with the clutch!

As for myself, I left the gearing and the primary spring stock but the work on the ramps is done
but with three 17.2 steel rivets for a total of 79 g per ramp! Primary springs are cheap and even
easy to change on the trail when tuning will come!

Just my 2 cents!

Errol

Technically you should be correct. With my RPM dropping I would want a primary spring that had more spring rate, and the bluew/brown actually has less rate than the yellow. On the other hand, to over come heavy weights you can use a spring with more preload which the blue/brown does have. The blue/brown is the reccomended spring in the manual for the MTX. One of local dealers has also been installing the blue/brown.

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that nothing beats actual field experience. The spring was only $20 and I'll try it Friday. If it doesn't help I'll change something else and ride again Sunday, or even swap the spring in the field. There's only six bolts holding the cover on, takes about 5 minutes to swap.

Ken, I came off I very fast 800 Rev I'd had for the last 3 years.

Installed the spring and Powermadd riser & adapter tonight. I went with the 4" riser and it ended up about 1"-1.5" higher than stock, it feels perfect (I'm 6 ft.). You do have to drill out the holes in the post and grind on the top riser clamps alittle since the riser is 4.25" wide and the flat spot on the bars is only about 3 3/4" wide.

Nothing better than field testing! I could not agree more! ;)!

We had a lot snow yesterday in the mountain and my first ride for me is Friday!

Taking the day off to do the break in! Hoping for a 100 miles day!

Can't wait! :o|

The runnin boards collect a lot of snow but it kicks off pretty easy. It hasn't been an issue yet.

I got the RTX Fox Float shocks installed tonight (thanks again Jeff!). They bolt right in and are the exact same length as the MTX shocks. I also removed the sway bar which was a huge PIA. You have to remove all the front plastic, side plastic, and we had to put heat on the bolts to get them out. Took about 3.5 hrs to remove it and reassemble the sled.

both stock MTX shocks = 8.5 lbs
swaybar with links & all hardware = 3.5 lbs

It's a net loss of about 6 lbs but I did it for the big bump absorption and the weight savings was just an added benefit.

I'll give a ride report on the Floats and new clutching on Friday.

talked to les from yamaha at the novi michigan show on saturday asking him the fitment of the short track rtx nytro floats to the mtx, he said they were the same shock running slightly different air pressure in each application.

with that said, i still wasnt going to run out and buy 700 bux worth of shocks and find out they didnt fit so, i am glad you posted this up. thanks for posting your real world results. ski

i ordered the rtx floats yesterday..my yammie bucks pays for them so it wont cost me anything..sway bar coming out also..but doesnt sound fun to do though..

What was the cost for the adapter and riser? Did you purchase from a dealer in the valley or Anchorage?

I purchased mine online from DennisKirk.com but almost any Snowmobile dealer can get them.

Its like $45 USD for the adapter and roughly the same for the 6" riser I got.

Also, I didn't have to grind or dill out anything on my MTX. The top clamps, while a bit wider, still hold really well when tighten, but I'll have to watch for wear.

nikolia next time your out will you post on how it handled wihtout the sway bar, i started to pull mine and ran out of time. but will do it if there is a great advantage
