Second ride report

Now that you are almost done with yours...lets get going on mine haha...Sled looks sick! All and all if you don't mind me asking, how much...ballpark did you spend to make the changes you have made? North or South this weekend? Lost Lake opened Monday.

PMing you on the prices

I'm heading south Saturday and Sunday. I can help you work on your sled if you need it. Pretty sure I could put one back together with my eyes closed now.

Thanks,...I'll be getting in touch about a few things.....When are you moving forward with the Supercharger?

hahaha thats kinda funny. ive been on a couple good rides but it only took my buddy 5 minutes on the nytro and he was sold. hes trading in his 07 rev 800r summit, on an 08 nytro mtx. said he couldnt afford to keep buying belts and with 1700 miles on it shes about to blow(most of the 800r blow up around 2000 miles)..
we swapped between his doo, my nytro ,and another buddys 800 xp, both of them said you cant feel the weight, and the chasis is unbeatable.
(im tryin to get some commision from the local yami dealer for selling a sled)
all in all very happy with my nytro besides the fuel capabilties.
put on 60 km 10 of witch was on the trailhead and the rest alpine riding,(in crusty snow) and the damn fuel light came on,, wtf. guess im packing spare gas all the time.
i used to be able to average 100 km per tank on my 01 mtn max 700, in deep and steep bc riding. and theres no way my nytro will be able to do that, if i was already runing out when there wasnt even very much powder...

The mpg will get better with every ride for a while. I will still be looking into a trail tank when money starts growing on trees.

also make sure you truely top the gas off at the truck prior to starting the day. pull the white insert from the tank and fill it to the brim, then replace the insert.

DISCLAIMER!!!!

DO NOT FILL TO BRIM THEN BRING INTO WARM GARAGE. DO NOT FILL TO BRIM THEN TRAILER SLED TO WHEREVER YOU RIDE. THE EXTRA FUEL YOU PUT IN WILL OVER FLOW OUT THE VENT LINE. ONLY TOP OFF PRIOR TO LEAVING THE TRAIL HEAD FOR THE DAYS RIDE. ski

with 500 kms on the sled i doubt the fuel mileage will get any better.(not noticably better).. and takin the white thing out is the dummest idea ive ever herd,(do you no why its in there.) wasting a litre of fuel into the box of my pick up dosnt sound very smart. especially when im bombing up logging roads to get to the snow...

yamaha really blew it on that one.

might be ok for you trail riders. and the guys who say they ride wfo all day. and can get 100 miles on a tank..
but up here in bc, where the snow is extremly deep and mtns very rugged, theres no chance ill even get 100km to a tank.

OUCH!!!! That really hurt! Sorry, but I'll side with Ski on this one. And Yes I know what the white neck is in there for. I've pulled these out of my sleds for years (along with alot of the guys I ride with). You missed the point that Ski made about not topping off till you are ready to head down the trail. The only thing I would have added would be to route your tank vent in a way that would prevent the excess spilling, and I don't fill it right to the brim but you can get about a half gallon more by filling past the bottom of the white neck.

not trying to bust anybodys chops here, im just very disappointed about the fuel mileage..
and yes i have removed this b4(the white insert), but i found i ended up losing what little extra i got as i bounced my way down the trailhead,(might work for trail riders, but its a little different up north)..
its not a huge deal but buy the looks of it ill be carrying 2 small jerry cans instead of my usuall one i used to carry.

i plan on strapping them down on the runnning boards near the rear of the sled, were i can easily ditch them at the treeline..
i used to actually just keep my small jerry can in one of the footwells, and i would use my foot and leg to hold it in. this actually works great(with some good skill when the trail gets steep)

Your mileage WILL improve drasticly once you learn to use the power you need instead of punching it and always just let the clutches 'catch up'! Your right thumb is the best AND worst fuel mileage mod we can put on a sled. I'm NOT saying baby it just learn to accelerate with engine RPM along with clutching NOT just 'to the bar then let off' once clutching has shifted out!

Well, she's all done. Got her running today but I have a faulty starter relay. At the end of last season my sled sometimes wouldn't start and then all of a sudden it would. Once we jumped the relay today it fired right up. I'm going in to the dealer tomorrow and hopefully they'll give me a new one off a show room sled so I can ride on Sunday.

caleb, please post a parnt number for that relay. like to pick one up for a spare. better to have it than not. ski

I will post a part number when I get my sled back. I had to leave the sled with the dealer. I almost brought it back home, I hate when other people touch my stuff. Not that I doubt the service managers ability(I'm sure he knows his sh!t) but I'm super picky. I know for a fact it's the starter relay. If they determine it's not the starter relay I'll just pick up my sled and buy one, they only cost $33.

There's no need to carry a spare. If it fails, you can just take a pair of pliers and touch it to the two bolt heads and jump it. The sled will run like normal.

I added a few things to help lessen snow ingestion and better the fit on the sidepanels. I put sticky back foam around the headlight to seal it tight against the hood. And I bought some 3M marine velcro(very heavy duty) and attached it to the Trail Tank and side panel to keep the panel tight against the tank.

no offense, but don't you want as much airflow under the hood as possible? All the little leaks your sealing up help with air flow don't they?

Nice fix on the headlight...I thought about using the rubber weather stripping from a truck door but never got around to it.
