Second ride report

crushed my spindle and bent the subframe....little perplexed at how it happened but gonna get it fixed asap. video shoot tommorow and no sled...will be runnin an f7 all day...bummed I cant rep Yami in the vid but oh well.

That sucks. I'm going to reinforce the sub frame and the spindles. It's a PIA to tear the front end apart. Still easier than removing a nun though.

Can you post some pics of how and where you brace up the subframe. I just picked up a new Nytro, haven't ridden it yet and want to do mine before I wreck it but I don't exactly know where to brace. I'm looking for some assistance from guys with experience. I think this summer I'll pull the front clip and duplicate it in chrome moly but till then I just want it to stay together.

Thanks Rx1M5

Took most of the day to mount the stupid Expert-X braces. I had to remove and notch the stock front steel plates, find some shorter bolts, and remount the AD plates once. The Nytro tunnel is PIA to measure off of.

Here's a few pics of the mounting plates and my oil leak I need to fix. The Good news is the Expert lost about 11 lbs and losing the rear suspension brackets dropped 10 more lbs.

In order to fit the 16" wide track which is surprisingly tight, I had to grind off 8(4 on ea. plate) of the welded nuts on the front steel plates. I'll be putting cap head bolts from the inside out with locknuts for 6 of them and 2 I'll just leave out.

And lucky me, the bottom of the oil tank where my leak is isn't removable, so it looks like a new oil tank under warranty. Hopefully they aren't on backorder.

$420 for 1 spindle and a lower a arm from Yamaha..$850 for the Timbersled front end. Oh what to do? Any suggestions?

unless timber re-enforced their top mount on the arms,id stay away..i bent a timberspindle with barely any miles on it..the top mount is a tiny little plate

Fabcraft has chromoly arms out that are suppose to be stronger than stock and 4 lbs lighter. They are usually $450 or so a set. I would get those.

Here's the Expert-X and track mounted up. I also have a pic of the clearance at the front cooler which is more than I thought there'd be. I will have to ditch the 9" wheel setup for a stock axle and 7.5" wheels though as the track is way to tight right now. Lost of work but it fits like a glove :D The stock tunnel doesn't look nearly as bad either with the rear suspension brackets gone but it should look even better once I'm done with it.

And for the AK guys, ER Yamaha will soon have better lower ball joints and oil lite bushings for the a-arms. It's probably going to be $250+ for everything but it will remove all the slop.

I'll add more pics as I chop up the tunnel. Oh yeah, the track is not aligned yet so the clearance might look especially tight, lol.

The approach angle is steeper than stock. It's because I'm running a 144 suspension with a 144 track. I could have set it back and used a 150" track or looked for a 136 Expert but from my previous experience with the Expert-X they don't ride nearly as well when set back. Bump absorption is my primary concern now. Also, you can lower the ride height 4" in about 30 seconds and suck the limiters up and it will reduce the approach angle alot.

I did order some C&A XT skis too so I don't have to deal with the stockers anymore.
