secondary clutch apex meltdown????

Where is the belt riding in the primary ? My guess is not very high.

Ditch the 8BU fully loaded. They are only good to 260ish if that. I would do the following:

Dalton DTAY-2 Adjustable weights (between 81-85 grams is my guess)
14.5mm rollers
B-W-B spring

47 helix
Arctic Cat green or EPI Purple (more or less the same by 2lbs) spring wound to 2+3=50 degrees (way harder to do than 10 degrees)

stock gearing or maybe even a 19

If your only gonna truely run 240-250hp than i would wind to 10 degrees and a little lighter in the primary weight (less than 81)

I don't know one single person in the mountains running the STM other than the Doo 1200 guys (because the stock clutches are junk)

I would also make sure you aren't getting any snow in there. My vents are all screened off and intercooler is screened as well.

This will solve your problem.

The 51 degree straight helix is killing belts and secondaries. That setup doesn't work in the mountains, at least no here in Norway, it's a secondary killer. Get the White Yamaha spring or a dalton Sec spring, the Dalton sec springs are longer than the Yamahas and add a lot more side pressure.

The Cat green and EPI purple are very stiff. 157 lbs. Everyone here in the mountains uses them between all the different turbo kits. Even Alpine uses the purple EPI and paints it black LOL

To wind to 10-50 degrees is more or less a two man job.

i always burned belts with the 51.

:) agree vectorboy, the 51's are killer to belts and secondary sheaves.

i have run this setup and on belt #4 in 5500 kms

84g daltons bwb

51 helix and epi purple

I get about 12000 kms out of 4 belts, but riding conditions and style plays a big part in how a clutch setup will perform :)

i run a str 50 helix on plat land and a purple spring,, but my question is with this stiff spring how do you guys manage to replace the belt easly? very hard to open up secondary,, any tips?

Put pressure on the helix and rotate it clockwise with your right hand while you push the belt down into the secondary with your right hand to open it up and at the same time keep it open, then slide the belt out, quite easy to do when you have the trick worked out.

Where did you get the 47 helix? What brand type is it? Or is it the yami 45 turned into a 47 by a machinst? thanks

You can buy them stock 47 from any Yammy dealer. Some guys can get away with the 51. I find with my riding style and 174 i cant use it. It just opens up to fast and the belts slides down into it. I tend to ride slow and with lots of hp leaning on it on sidehills. Also i love donuts lol. If your wide open and not doing a lot of technical tight riding more wide open where the belt doesn't get the torque on it a 51 might do. Unfortunately we cant all ride the same setup because of the rider element.

I need lots of squeeze from both clutches lol.

I ride trees more than full throttle climbing and have never had a problem with the belt sticking or slipping.....but my clutches are cleaned every 2 or 3 rides so always in good shape...maybe that has something to do with it...im running a 174 also.....47 also works

I had a couple stock 47s laying around I put one of them in and a white spring, my clutches have been cleaned twice this year its not a sticking problem the snow is DEEP I will give a report after next weekend without touching the primary and see what happens

I got a 47 from the dealer, plus he is now stocking the purple epi spring. Holy #$%&* that a tough spring to install !.
