I have a 2006 apex, and the belt is shimmed correct when you turn the track and secondary by hand it is right where it is suppose to be but when I rev the motor on a stand and let it roll to a stop the belt is down in the secondary about 1"
I tried to tighten the spring tension did not change, any suggestions to what this may be?
I have added washers and taken washer out from seconday ect. this is drivin me nuts and I know it has to be a simple fix

I'd look into a few things which may be causing things to bind:

- check the chaincase. Is the chain tightened up too much? Is there sufficient lube? Are bearings operational?
- check for binding in the track. Is track tension set correctly? any track clips broken and causing friction? spin the track by hand with the belt removed. check bearings
- are you setting the preload on the spring in the secondary correctly? I remember working on my old sled's secondary and I was preloading the spring in the opposite direction and a similar situation to your occurred.
- is your parking brake on? defective?

If your sled was working fine before taking apart the secondary, then concentrate on the secondary first.

There may be nothing wrong at all. I don't think it's unusual for the belt to not come all the way up to the top when the sled is on a stand and there is no resistance on the track.

secondary

that is normal i had same problem, if you take a hose spray water
on it while moving it will be normal

Thanks guys I wanted to make sure it was working properly before I put my ulmer racing clutch kit in. I think I may wait until I get some snow and test it again. By the way thanks to Gary at ulmer racing top notch support and quick delivery

I can understand why the belt wouldn't come to the top of the secondary if you hit the brakes to stop, but I don't understand why it wouldn't when coasting to a stop, especially while on a track stand.

It's because of the four stroke engine braking. My 06 RTX does the same thing. I bet if you were to look at your secondary when you were coasting to a stop on the lake, it would end up on the top of the sheaves.

...which contradicts the issue of what is happening with johnnyturbo's sled.

It happens because there is no load on the track. The secondary is a torque sensing component. With the sled on the track stand there is not enough load or "torque" on the track to make it shift the belt completely back to the top.

Ahhh, maintenant je comprends, I understand. Thanks for the clarification. Johnnyturbo, your sled is fine. ;)!
