Well, I hope I can get some good input from some current viper owners. I am 6800 problem free miles on my Nytro and I am ready for a new sled. Like many others I have a love hate relationship with my nytro. Motor is awesome just ill handling even after over 1k in upgrades. So here is the problem, I am Yamaha to the core but I am very unsure if I am going to buy a Yamaha. Hope this doesn't start a brand bashing thread but I am considering either a 600 Pro S or 800 Pro S switchback. I rode one and the handling was superior to my Nytro. Unfortunately I have yet to ride a viper. I am aware of them being down on power which is a bit of a disappointment but not a deal breaker. So let me hear your input! #summersucks

They handle so well that it feels like your going slow but then you turn around and see your buddy hanging over the handlebars of his sled just to try and keep up.

I haven't personally ridden the AXYS Pro S so can't compare it to my Viper. But everyone who have ridden one are loving it. Read the reviews on eg snowmobile.com. Out of the box it's probably better than the Viper, and fore sure lighter.
However, as a core Yamaha guy, would you see yourself riding a Polaris?
Will you like the Viper? Probably. Is it better handling than the Nytro? Oh yes. I had a Nytro XTX and now have the Viper XTX and I'm able to ride the same trails way faster and more confident then on the Nytro. It's more stable.
But as I use to say, whatever makes you happy

Good stuff, keep it coming. I know what you are saying about seeing myself on a Polaris. We ride for full days and my Nytro has left be tired and not wanting to ride after dinner. The Poo did not make me tired and I wanted to ride it more. I am hoping if I go viper it will be the same.

Not picking on you, just asking questions.
Looking at your signature i dont see any handeling mods listed.
What exactly is your issue with handeling?
I ride with a 2009 nytro 121 track
Only mods are simmons flexi skis, and front shock springs backed off to get the a arms level.
I have ridden the sled and it handles fine. I ride an 06 apex and also a 2014 viper and he never ever has an issue keeping up in the trails
Theres a set of split rail skis for sale in the classifieds for 500 bucks.
I have heard nothing but good reports on them with regards to improving the handeling on a nytro.
My viper has been a decent sled so far, but Right now, knowing what i know and spending what i have spent on my viper to get it where i am happy with it.
I would spend 500 on the split rail skis and keep the nytro

I basically have the sport package from hygear, TRS on front, Dual rate on rear, hy/lo valves and their revalve and their spring spacer. AS far as skis I have upgraded to the tuners and I have no issue with turning the sled. My issue is the rear skid feels like I am on a pogo stick. I feel every hard hit. I've tried so many adjustments buy cant seem to find the sweet spot. That said... the sled puts a smile on my face each time I ride it. It just comes down to feeling like I rode a bull all day long. It just isn't very forgiving on the rough trails. Not picking on you, just asking questions.

Out of curiosity, if you want new, why not a Sidewinder?

While I don't have a viper, I do have the equivalent, in a 2015 Cat 7000 LXR. I usually ride with the same 4 guys, and all of them ride either a 2015, or 2016 Polaris 800 Switchback AXYS. Let me say this, if those 800 AXYS Switchbacks were 4 stroke, I would be on one. My 7000 Cat rides real nice, but the AXYS chassis is better in my opinion. I do miss the power of my APEX. If you don't mind a 2 stroke, you would be happy with the Polaris. Both are good sleds.

It comes down to price, my wife rides my daughter has started on her 2nd season. I bought a new inline trailer last season and I'm trying to justify spending 10k on a new sled. I've been saying for some time now when sleds go over 10k they may price me out of the sport. The sidewinder looks and sounds like it's going to be an awesome sled but just a few to many pennies for my budget.Out of curiosity, if you want new, why not a Sidewinder?

- 2014 Viper xtx, Thunder products clutch kit
Fun thread here. I had a 2009 Nytro xtx for several years and last year upgraded to a 2014 viper xtx. The Nytro was my first Yamaha sled and I did love the motor, what a beast! I upgraded to dual keel skis on the Nytro which helped but I could never quite get over the heavy steering and overall heavy feeling of the sled. Ive only put maybe 700 miles or so on my viper but overall I really liked it. The steering felt better from day one and the rear skid felt great, especially with a heavier spring. The viper has a lighter and more refined chassis for sure. The Nytro chassis was strong and rugged, but required brute force to muscle it thru the trails and terrain. I love to work on machines so I did a bunch of mods to my viper; not really because they were necessary but because I just have to mess with my sleds. I won't buy a 2 stroke sled because of the smell and pollution. In addition, I've read so many stories about how unreliable these modern 2 strokes are. The standard seems to be to plan on a top end rebuild after 2500 miles. No thank you! Also, the deals on vipers now are amazing! Since the sidewinder came out you can get a viper for a song and have the same motor as your Nytro in a chassis that is much better. I'm happy to answer any questions, especially since I came from the same sled.

I have a 2009 Nytro xtx with a ton of mods...oft relocate, Star suspension, Mountaintec 32+2 a arms, Ulmer go fast parts ect ect ect....My 2015 Viper xtx le with the factory turbo is better everywhere...and I haven't put new skis on it yet.

Echo this. My Nytro XTX is a 2011, my Viper LTX SE MPI Turbo is a 2015. I HAVE bought new skis, but aside from a stiff rear skid that I am still working with, I agree that the Viper is better everywhere. I have basically decided that I love the motor, I still ride my Nytro from time to time (when I want to let my kids have a shot at the Viper) and I like them both. But the Viper is a great upgrade.I have a 2009 Nytro xtx with a ton of mods...oft relocate, Star suspension, Mountaintec 32+2 a arms, Ulmer go fast parts ect ect ect....My 2015 Viper xtx le with the factory turbo is better everywhere...and I haven't put new skis on it yet.

I'm from APEX and Vector background and the Viper is the opposite of your post- love the ride/ handling could use more top end. But I love it.
All of those sleds listed are great. I would go with dealer support and can't see myself going 2 stroke again

- Yamaha sr viper 15 ltx dx, mpi 190 turbo, straight line header, 38" mtx front end, mtx steering, mtx seat, xtx 141" skid and 2.25" power claw track
2019 sidewinder xtx le, sleeping for now
You can pick up a new left over viper for $7,500 plus tax, that's leaves 2 grand for clutch kit, header, intake, can, and fuel programmer or flash to make your viper a 100 mph+ sled all day, I had a 13' nytro xtx and I know exactly what you mean, viper is an awesome sled especially in the bumps, I loved my nytro but it was like a mechanical bull.
