I have a vector with only 100 miles on it, would it be wise for me to change the oil before the season or wait until I have 500 miles on it like Yammi suggests??
I don't know if there is a "special" break-in oil in it now of is it just normal oil, and if I was to change it I would be putting in Amsoil powersports oil, would I still need to change it at the 500 mile mark or could I go to the normal change interval?

Don't change it yet !!!!!!!!!! Put 400 more miles on the motor.. Then change the oil & filter. Not sure about putting full syn. oil in that soon. They come with the 0-30 yammie lube from the factory.. That's the oil I've used for three years and 3,500 miles with no problems. MM.

I like to change the oil after my initial break in ride. The theory is that the bulk of the wear happens in the first miles. But these topics are more volitile than religion

Well then this probrably won't help you either.
If your gonna change your oil you should have done it before you stored it all year.
I've got an 05' Rage. I changed the oil and filter after about a 1000 miles and then at the end of every season. That way it sits all year with fresh oil in it.
Personally, if I were you now, I would just go ahead and put some more miles on the sled before I changed anything.

If the sled only has 100 mi., I wouldn't change it till you have 500 or more miles. and even then, I wouldn't use full syn, ...stick with the Yamaha 0-30 semi synth.

I would run it a couple more hundred miles then change the oil, it will give you an excuse for a beer night in the garage and to check out the rest of the sled while you are at it.. I went to Amsoil right after break in with no issues......

That's what I would do. Mid-season oil change and complete inspection. I went to synthetic after first oil change myself. I'm cheap! I run Supertech(WAL-MART brand) synthetic in everything I own. Some people tell me they wouldn't buy oil there, but I know for a fact it's the same stuff you get in the Pennsoil package. Only way cheaper!

Add one for change it after initial rides. On my JetSki, I did it at 1 hour and then 10 and onto normal (1x/yr depending on hours). Did my two at 300 mi. which was after my Late Feb to Mar. season. sigh
I'd get another season in place before going full syn. That's my plan anyway.
Here's a question:
Would anyone recommend changing oil immediately after running something like SeaFoam or Berryman ChemTool through a tank of gas? Or is that not necessary. Of course my lazy a$$ doesn't want to change this newly changed oil unless I'd really need to.

It is never a bad idea to change the oil & filter. If you want to change it then change it. That said if it was mine I would wait till I got the 500 miles on it. Remember you have almost new oil & filter on that sled the next 400 miles will go very quickly. You have normal oil and filter in that sled it is not a special break in oil. As for changing it to full synthetic amsoil at the 500 mile mark I did with my 05 with no problems but that is a decision only you should make.

I think if you are questioning to change it or not then it should be changed. The most important thing you can do for any engine is make sure it has fresh clean oil. I would change mine now and again at the 500 mile mark but then again, I am anal.

The main problem I have is that it is in my shed all clean and dry right now, when I reach the 500 mile mark it wil be in febuary loaded with snow and road salt and no heated area to change it in.

That clinches it. Change the oil and filter now.

You guys are confusing me. We have three Yamahas, two rages and one attak, bought last season.07 Attak and 06Rage have 150-175 miles. Other rage has 0 miles but it is an 06 leftover. I don't know what to do about oil changes? plowking
