Sidewinder Helix

I see the new helix for the sidewinder is available on the Dalton Website but you cannot select them on their Drivepower purchasing site.:dunno:

Any other way to order them?

Hold on to your money for now,Ulmer is working on a different secondary spring,he feels the helix is not the problem, but a combo of the rollers and stock secondary spring,he is working with a cat spring right now,the tangs are at different degree vrs stock so you wont be winding it 3&3 or 6&1 more like 0&1 but has more side force, and because the tangs are offset vrs the stock spring, that 10 degrees will feel more like 60 ...

Thank Snowbeast. Will keep my eye open

I shimmed my secondary posts with washers as per shagmans advice and it seemed to help. Road 240 miles wrapped at 6&1 and clutches look clean with very little black marks, even with 2 rollers having flat spots. Gonna wrap it back to 3&3 just to see if clutches clean up even more.

Cat rollers on order!!

Hi Newtron.
Sorry for the delay. We have had a lot of inquiries and people waiting for these. The YSR helixes were just added to the Dalton website on Friday ( to let people know we are done and they are being produced) and has all still been a bit "tentative".
We are still fine tuning the pricing on this new model before starting the shipments on Monday, and it will then be added to our e-commerce retail site (drivepower.ca). There may be limited quantities for a few more days actually.
Give us a call or email on Monday and we will get you looked after.

However, by sometime Tuesday we should have a special introductory deal for retail customers ordering this new product on line from our drivepower site.

Thanks

Hi Pete, I know some use the Cat secondary springs in there (some people buy our cat springs to use in Yamaha models), however, as you may know they kind of fit funny and they are not relevant to other Yamaha wrap degrees, etc. (actually, all springs seem a bit funny fit in these to those unfamiliar, the way they helix/cover gets wrapped but a Cat spring seems even more awkward) I personally don't like it much, but i know some do. They will work.

We are working on a couple prototype secondary springs that are a proper fit for the clutch, however it will probably be a few more weeks before we know production rates and release info for that.

Good to hear Dale, you always do excellent work my friend,i will be waiting on your results as well,as you may know,i have time, sense yamacat cant seems to fill there fish with 2017 p/n,s for there Thundercats and Sidewinders, except for the 162 long tracks,we have nothing, and if that tunnel was not a rolled case,i could use it,but its set up for 2" plus tracks, and just wont work, and it appears as though not many have any idea what may work and what wont,so its just a waiting game for me,and I am getting no help from Yamaha corp. at all.. Thanks Pete

I have a few things to order, so will wait until everything is available on Drivepower.

I just called up to dalton in Truro. They said your helix will be ready soon. Can't wait. I love this sled but the secondary really has not been up to snuff

Yes they will be ready soon. But without testing who's to know what angle to buy?? I know we have a straight 35 in there now. Maybe first one to try is a straight 38? I can't afford to buy 10 and then test them all lol

Wait and see. All I can say. There's enough out there now it won't take long for feed back

That's my plan. Within a few weeks I am sure guys will try some stuff and share findings. This sidewinder is my first modern yamaha...and new to this forum. Gotta say its a great resource of info...and very little B.S:rocks:

This is what I want to know.....the 35° stock helix acts like a 42° helix because of the roller clutch. Will the angles you buy react the same on the rollers being more free movement?

If I were to guess on angles....I would suggest a 39° straight for the most....but give me a reverse angle helix 36/40° to really tear some $hit up.

I was told the 38 that I ordered is 3 degrees more then stock. I would have done a 39 if offered. IMO it needs more angle everywhere but not a lot. I guess I will be trying a 38 straight soon.
