Going by description it should be BW = hyvo: 1702-410 (OEM Arctic Cat Part SPROCKET,BW-21T REV-(13 WIDE/33 SPLINE)).
Now running 1702-490 (OEM Arctic Cat Part SPROCKET,BW-21T REV-(15W/33SPLN)OIL HOLE)
Lets hope the wider sprocket will last and take the power better without fretting like that.
If it continues, I'd be changing brands of oil or be doing something different there too.

Yeah that is a 21 gear. So much pressure on it from 320 tune and lots of long studs the chain plates just dig into the gear teeth. Chain has a scissor action as it goes around gear. Running 38 bottom. 21/38 = 1.81
Scott Taylor has 25/45 = 1.80. I'd like to try this to see if there is less wear on 25 tooth top gear cuz it's bigger. Anyone know if there is a long enough chain for 25/45?
90 pitch should work

You were right (again. Are you ever wrong? ). Chain must have been loose last season, only catching top of gear teeth. Yikes! Just had my chain case open today and after 2500 miles the new 21T top gear looked really good still. No fretting like this old pic from last year. Bushing looks like new. Still has all the gray coating on it.It almost appears from the pic of the bad teeth on the gear that perhaps the chain is just too loose and barely making contact in the sprocket, either that or the oil just isn't good enough.
I've never had a gear look like that before.
Fits shaft nice and tight. 21/38 gear, 320 tune, 192 1.625" StudBoy Lake Racer studs.

Are you referring to 15 wide chain vs. 13 wide?
Stock 24 top gear is for 15 wide chain. Any narrower chain will not fit. Stock 50 lower gear is narrower than top. A 13 wide chain will fit that one but not 24 upper gear.
If you're buying a new 48 lower, then which one is it made for?
Stock gears an chain are hyvo profile. Silent chain and gears are not compatible and cannot be interchanged with hyvo.

ok i will ré phrase i have a stock gearing and chain right now in my sidewinder witch is 24-50, how wide is the stock 50t gear 7/8” or 3/4” ?Are you referring to 15 wide chain vs. 13 wide?

ok so if i understand correctly the sidewinder stock bottom gearing is 3/4” wide? The Hyvo gears and chains are typically not advertised in dimensional width but in chain link width for ex 15. The silent chains and gears are typically advertised in dimensional width for ex 3/4".
As previously stated the 998s come with Hyvo gearsets and chains. Top gear is 15 wide hyvo, bottom gear is 13 wide hyvo, and the chain is 15 wide hyvo.
On my sled I run Scott Taylor hyvo gears and both top and bottom are 15 wide with a 15 wide hyvo chain. I have shimmed the top gear to align properly with the bottom gear so the chain runs true.

BTW - stock 92 pitch chain will be very loose on 24/48. Not sure if stock tensioner bolt is long enough. Not sure if a 90 (2602-840) would go on?
2602-364 is Cat number for 48T gear.
2602-364 is Cat number for 48T gear.

These are the gear combo and chain requirements I calculated for my SW.
Total top and bottom gear teeth_________/_____________Chain length
58-59______________________________ /_____________ 84 pin chain
62-63_____________________________ /_______________86
66-67_____________________________/_______________88
70-71_____________________________/______________ 90
74-75_____________________________/_______________92
So 24 + 48 gears = 72 which puts you in no mans land for chain length
I run 26/45 on my SW X-TX that has 8 x 3" drivers
26 + 45 = 71 and I needed a used 90 pin chain that was stretched a bit to get the combo installed.
These are my figures so confirm before you buy

24-48 would require 91 link chain on paper( 24+48= 72….72/2= 36+54.19= 90.19) and obviously theres no such thing so 92 will fit but be very loose. Never get a 90 on unless its stretched a ton. . When figuring links required you will come up with an ending of .19 or .69. For example 21-41 is 85.19 so 86 link chain. 22-41 is 85.69 so same 86 link chain will fit but numbers ending in .19 install easily and combos ending in .69 will fit but can be a pain in the #*$&@ to install the first time with new components. Once chain has mileage and has stretched it will install easier.
