What are they and how do i get them and will they work on other makes besides yamaha..

My brothers 02 polaris 500 two up darts BADLY!! and he has 6 in carbides!!

Ski shims are about 1/4" thick hard plastic the get screwed to the bottom of the ski saddle rubber (back side) The porpose is to get the ski to sit flat on the snow which exposes more of the wear bar... The shims are not a fix-all for the darting issue, but can help some. The first thing to try is to back off the front shock spring pre load 3/16 or about 3-4mm.

I just put on a pair of Bergstrom carbides that came with the shims. The shims really made a difference in my sled. Darting was reduced while I could maintain some increased ski pressure for handling.

If you read the "tech" section of totallyamaha.com, you will see that you can make these shims out of old belts. I did this on my 02 Viper and what a differance. Now ever sled I work on gets this treatment. Very easy to do and cost ZERO.

The local glass and plexiglass shop made mine for $1. 2" X 1 1/2", :? 1/4 inch plexiglass. Drilled 2 holes with dull drill bit and counter sunk 2 stainless steel screws. I also used automotive adhesive. I had a hell of a time putting the ski bolts back in tho, I had to use a floor jack and place a shim (extra ski bolt) on on side of ski to wedge the ski to put the bolt back through. :? I haven't rode it yet to see if it works, but by the look of my wear bars (front worn flat) it can't hurt.

The one above the wear bar is called a ski saver. If you order bars, you get both shims free. He even sent an extra spindle shim for my wife's sled.
I got an 8" carbide with the other goodies for about $85. They work good.
