Skid Shock leaking pink shock oil at the Clicker Dial

Went to adjust my rear skid shock Clicker dial for the first time the other day on my XTX and noticed the snow around the dial was a pale pink color. It looks like a slow shock oil leak cause I wiped it off and checked later and the snow around the dial was pink again.

Anyone had this problem? Is it an easy fix or does the shock have to be replaced? I'm going in for my 500 mile oil change and check up soon, I assume Yamaha would warranty this?

Thanks

When my rear shock in my XTX exploded the entire skid was pink so yes it looks like you have a seal gone somewhere. Wipe it off, and if it comes back you can rule out it just being grease.

Not a huge mechanics here but those shocks are rebuildable. From what i think and put the emphasis on think. Its leaking from the knob so there must be some kind of o-rings with the needle to set the opening for the desired setting. It could only need a rebuilt job and if you dont want any fancy work done on them, yamaha will probably fixed this for cheap. Unless it took a huge blow and bent the shaft of something like than ya you might have to find somewhere to rebuilt them but as for seal goes, Yamaha will fix it while she goes at the dealer spa. Wouldnt loose any sleep on it.

Same problem

I had the same problem when i took it out of storage last year, i noticed pale pink hydraulic fluid on the clicker dial and a stream inside my track. I fought with Yamaha because they said it was normal. I'm a mechanic, leaking shocks are not normal. Eventually i removed the shock and brought it to a different yamaha delaer after the first one said it was fine and i had it replaced under warranty just a few days before it expired. There was no resistance left and when the shop owner removed the reservoir plug the o-ring inside was cut as well and there was hardly any fluid left. If they push on the back of your sled and say its fine you might want to try another shop, chances are your sled will sit normal. But those shocks are not cheap and eventually you will need it rebuilt or replaced. There is a guy south of Ottawa who i have heard good things about, cant remember his name right now though, sorry.

Thanks for the replies gents! Update, spoke to my Dealer about it today over the phone. I'm bringing it in for it's 500 mile check up in a couple of weeks. He said he hasn't heard of this before but to keep an eye on it the next few rides and if it's still leaking to give him a call before I come down and he'll order a new one and replace it under warranty at the same time as the oil change.

Nice to have a good dealer!!
