Bought a cheaper starter solenoid off of eBay and almost cost me my sled!
Fuses didn’t blow and we didn’t notice anything at first other then sled sounded a little funny.
Then it killed and when I got close to it I saw and smelt the smoke and it got worse quick. Didn’t even matter key was off it seemed.
By time I was able to pull power wire from battery and ground off of starter solenoid finally ended the madness!
So pissed off and annoyed. Brand new $100 battery last week as well and now it’s shot.
Don’t know what to think or where to start at this point??

Not to throw fuel on the fire and I know oem parts are more expensive but they are well worth it in the long run. I will not buy anything from evil bay or Amazon unless it is oem. Port Yamaha or Power Sports 1 for Yamaha parts and now I buy A lot of things from Country Cat for my Viper.

08 Nytro fried a cheap starter solenoid and fried some wires and such. Pulled power wire and sled killed. Least it died at same time.
Got new oem part and replaced bad wires or cut them back and added in new pieces. Hooked up new part but no power? Battery has juice.
What should I check or try at this point. Got plans to ride in few days. Hope I can figure it out...

Cut bad wires out and swapped with new. Swapped out bad starter relay with oem part. Went to start it and no power! Did I blow a fuse or something??Suppose I need to cut wires back and redo all that was effected and get a oem part and hook the wires up and cross my fingers! Lol. Use a test light to find it. So scary! Glad it worked out. Be sure to baking soda and water the area or acid will eat your sled.

That battery didn’t open up. Just melted the lead on terminal a little and melted all the wires around it. Where do I locate the fuse that is meant to blow in this type of situation etc?Use a test light to find it. So scary! Glad it worked out. Maybe this can help. There should be an inline battery fuse. Unfortunately I have never had cause to find it. Since it's only 30 amps I would assume it's in the fusebox with the rest of them.

Don't blame yourself as there are a lot of counterfeit brand name parts out there or are misrepresented. Not just sleds but automotive parts too. eBay and Amazon are a hotbed of these CCC (Cheap Chinese Crud) copies.
I got burned by a cheap aftermarket part (I knew it was). Replaced the starter relay in my MP with one and it burned up my starter by sticking on. Only after the third starter that I realized it was the relay. Lesson learned.
Now my RS GT needs one. Already got a genuine Yamaha to go in. Like the man used to say "You can pay me now or you can pay me later".
