Sled keeps on shutting down!!

My wifes zr 7000 did this same exact thing last year, a bottle of dry gas later and it was cured, havnt had a problem since

I noticed a wire behind the driven clutch on my wife XF7000 that started to chafe. I think it was white. You may want to check there. If you have the same wire sticking out and rubbing it may short things out.

X2 or filter clogged

Where there is snow. I hope

I don't believe it's a fuel issue. It runs great for a while then it's like the switch is turned off. there are times we can go 25 miles and nothing. I will check the wiring harness when I get a chance. Sometimes it happens at 20 mph, 40 mph, 80 mph. there is no consistency.

seen moisture get in the kill switch pod in the mountains from rolling the vipers and caused this issues...took the pod of and dried it and been running fine since.

Man, I hope you figure something out....that does sound electrical, not fuel related. Sucks when you have something and can't figure out the problem gremlin.

Yeah, I agree. If it were fuel, it should run crappy before dying; unless it was an electrical problem to the fuel pump in which case it would be both. It could also be program related as others have mentioned; safety shutdown due to low pressure or fluid or temperature or something...

Edit: Bad sensor?

Does this only happen while riding or does it happen at idle? Perhaps flick the relays, move every wire and connection etc. Try to induce a failure.
When going through your electrical harness, remove the switch and gauges from the hood so you can completely run your machine with all body panels off. This will give you better access while troubleshooting. I would also pull all the electrical connections and check for corrosion. This will have the added benefit of reseating everything. I'd probably do this after flicking all relays and wiggling every wire as its a pain in the @$$... Pulling the switch and gauges out also will reseat those connections if that hasn't been done already. Since you have two identical sleds, try swapping the switch and gauge to the other machine since its a simple troubleshooting step.

A problem like this that doesn't throw any codes could be a hard short or loss of ground somewhere along the way. Everyone is giving great suggestions. One more that I can think of is to take off your seat and just go through all of the connections from the battery forward. There are some sharp brackets in there under the seat maybe something has been pinched or rubbed through.

I am really surprised your dealer didn't offer to keep your sled and work with it till fixed. Intermittent problems are part of the territory and sometimes you just have to change suspected parts until you finally get the right one.

Our 09 phazer had this issue when brand new. Just randomly shut off about once every ride and then you could start it right back up. Dealer couldn't find anything wrong. The second season came around and while I was doing some early season maintenance noticed that the negative or ground wire was loose so I tighten it down and for the next 4 year's it never missed a beat. I agree that its electrical and its going to be tough to find.

Both excellent suggestions. That is a grounding point by the clutches on frame tube. There is a quick and easy one to check. I don't have the sled in front of me, so I can't remember where the others are off the top of my head... Someone want to tag in?

Just above the primary clutch on the aluminum bracket :)

And if it was a grounding issue I would assume that the dash would go out and then reboot. Correct! But he stated the the dash didn't go out or maybe didn't see it go out. How about the ground for the fuel pump

Thats what stumps me. Dash would go out. Makes me lean to fuel but normally that wouldn't be instant.
