I am a first timer at the replacement of these doughnuts and I am not mechanically inclined. If anyone has to do this to there sled, buy them from sledtoyz and search for directions on here. It was an easy process that only took about 2 hours. The toughest part was getting the two bolts loose on the tunnel. I detached the exhaust on the back by the tail light and was able to slide the whole set up back which made it much easier to replace the doughnuts.
My only question is...my sled has 3600 miles on it and the exhaust doughnuts were completely gone. Is this common?

2900 miles and mine were shot, Yamaha must get their donuts and bushings from the same place.

True, at least when I changed my bushing there was still parts of it in the Arms, but the exhaust there was absolutely nothing

I just got done changing mine at 3000, 2 were ok... the middle one was gone... im putting the same ones in again... figured the hondo that they wanted for the copper ones wernt worth it... not gonna have the sled long enuff to have to replace them again anyway....and i stripped the 2 bolts out .. ended up drilling the rivets out and replaced the rivets with ss bolts on the hanger..

What are some signs to look for if these donuts are failing? I picked up my xtx and it has 5000km, babied its whole life sled is mint..but how can I tell?
Will you hear a header leak? Ticking?

Well I guess mine must've been leaking for a while, I just didn't figure that at 3600 miles that these would be completely gone. I did not realize this and this year I notices a rattle coming from under the tunnel. This rattle got really bad once the sled was done with its initial warm up so I concluded that it was the doughnuts. I purchased my doughnuts from sledtoyz out of Canada and to my place shipping was not very high. I really only spent 10 dollars more for having a product that will seem to last a lot longer than oem.

you will be able to tell... the sound is like a loud rattle, and if you stick a rag in the exhaust and it doesnt kill the motor you have a leak, and more than anything its your donuts.... I have a can on mine so after the initial warm up its very noticeable.. sounds like sh^$... thats how i knew they were out..

I'm looking into changing mine as well. I have been doing some searching online and there are some that say American made and some that say made in china. I have read to buy the American made ones is there really a diff or is it just bull? The American made ones seem to be more expensive.

The companies on TY selling copper donuts are Sledtoyz, thistle, and OFT sells Thistle's donuts down here south of the border. They are all excellent. Buy what you want.
