Says it all with the luck and mood I've been in. Went to change out the sliders for the upcomming weekend and the screw broke. Drill it out, take the easy out to it...that snaps... :o|

You drill experts, what type of drill bit do I need to drill out the easy out. I have some of these titanium coated and it just laughs at them. I was thinking ahead, picked up a tap set on the way home.

Anyone put the drill to the rail and open up the backside for a nylon lock nut setup?

haha!! mine backed out whne i was riding, at least your not 100 miles from home wiht you slides bent all the way around your track.

i just dirlled another small how in the rail, then a pilot hole in the slide and riveted it. works great and IMHO i think its a lot easier, just make sure you use an aluminum rivet and it will drill right out easy when you have to replace the slides

Try a colbolt(spelling) bit

If you are handy with a welder , get yourself a 312 stainless rod and weld a nut to the broken stud and it should spin right out after it cools a bit . I've seen this work but don't touch the skid just the stud.

No go... :o|

Ended up drilling a hole vertically for a M6 screw thru the rail about 1 1/2" further down the rail and then one horizontal for a nylon lock nut. Had to modify the sliders also. It'll be much easier next time replacing the slides. What a job... #$%&*

Finished picture, looks like it'll work very good. I don't understand why Yamaha doesn't have this setup?

At least you go it fixed and can ride it. I just changed mine, one of the Hifax was a real PITA to get out and the other one was easier. No problems with the screws though.

Just a side note, heat (torch of some sort) is your friend when it comes to broken bolts. I've broken quite a few working on my car, and heat definitely helps them loosen up to unscrew easier.
