Interested in changing my primary spring to a soft start spring on the rtx. I did a search and had some questions answered but still have a couple more. Does it effect top speed at all? How about acceleration from take off and mid range? I would like to have a lower engagement but not at the cost of losing take off acceleration and pull

I have seen no Ill effects to Top speed or Mid-range. I have seen my mileage go up just slightly !

When on full throttle drag race. I can't say it's faster but it's not slower! I have them on both of my Vector's and both are neck to neck with a 2015 Skidoo 1200 Renegade ( my brother's sled ) The only time he really gets the jump on me is in deeper snow . On firm hard pack I stay right with him and have beat him a few times this year. The spring seems to provide smoother engagement for slower speeds but no loss of top speed.

I am also using the soft start spring.
I have not noticed any downside at all to the soft start spring.
I used mine with a cotc kit
Low end felt the same. Top end did not change. Acceleration from a dead stop felt the same. Only difference i noticed is the sled can now creep around at low speed/from a full stop without being so jerky. Exactly as was advertised for this spring.
Remember i am saying it all feels the same.
All i have is seat of the pants feel to go off, since its never been on a dyno, and i dont usually race.
I would purchase this spring again.

Where can I get this spring? Can I get it at the dealer? Is there a part number for this spring? Thanks for any help, can't stand the jerkiness of the sled at lower speeds around corners or from a dead stop.

Barn of Parts has it.

I tried it. It does have a lower engagement, which is nice, BUT, on my sled anyway, it felt a little soft in the pull. Going to swap it back and forth a couple more times this season, just to make sure. Now mind you, my sled was new and still breaking in. Only has 1800 miles on it, SO FAR. To be continued.... PS, never rode this thing stock, it had the B.V. kit from day 1.Is anyone running this with the big venom kit?

I used the soft start spring last year and really like it. My acceleration from a dead stop or low speed did not seem any different only smoother. I could not continue with the jerky starts the OEM Yamaha spring provides from a wear & tear perspective and safety. I can now manage to load the sled without launching onto the trailer. I also find I have more control at road crossings where the banks are steep and you want to creep into position to cross when safe. I don't know if all Vipers launched like mine with the original spring, but to me it was very jolting and felt hard on the drive mechanism as well as more difficult to control. The soft start spring made my Viper feel like what I would consider a normal engagement. I have not had a chance to see if top end is affected since sledding was so limited last year and did not get to a place to open it up for a stretch.
