How did you guys remove the jack shaft bearing? I have the chain case completely removed off the sled and the c-clip removed from the jack shaft bearing. I tried using a rubber mallet to tap on the jack shaft to see if the bearing would budge but no luck. I read a post where someone used a pipe to go over the jack shaft but I was looking at the chain case side and there is this collar on the shaft that doesn't seem to want to come off either. Is the diameter of the pipe suppose to go around it too. I'm half tempted to just grease the bearing while it's still in place and be done with it.

Not quite sure which collar you're referring to on the chaincase side. Once you have the chaincase off, there's a circlip that is installed in a groove in the jackshaft. Is that what your talking about. Once you have the jackshaft out, get a small bearing puller (I rented mine from AutoZone). It was a hammer style puller; slipped the 'claws' inside the inner diameter of the bearing, seated them on the bearing itself, one pow with the slide hammer and out it came.

Maybe you could post the diagram of the exploded parts off the microfiche and highlight that collar on the chaincase side.

Get a long 1/2 ex. with a socket on the end come from the Cain case side and tap it out very easy to get out. Tap the new one in. Make sure you put the new locking nut on the jack shaft frist be for you slide it in. The bearing is tapperd on the id make sure you have the bigger side of the tapper facing the clutch side.

It's number 35 on the parts diagram. I just noticed there is a set screw so this should allow me to remove the collar. But my problem is that the jack shaft is still installed; I'm trying to remove it so I can then remove the bearing. I have a bearing puller but am having problems with getting the jack shaft off. I suppose once I get this collar off, I will then need to find a pipe to fit over the jack shaft and pound the bearing out that way. I was hoping the jack shaft would come off easier and then I could use the bearing puller.

Ah my bad yea you need all this off frist both the outside and inside cover of the chain case.

Once you get that set screw/collar off and all you have is the jackshaft being supported by the jackshaft bearing, I'd say you're not going to have a problem removing it. If the original jackshaft bearing collar is still in place, most likely it's seated/rusted a bit so it's being subborn. Take a rubber mallet and whack the chaincase side of the jackshaft an it ought to unleash everything. It might also be a good idea to spray some penetrating oil or lubricant on that collar prior to knocking it free.

Don't get frustrated, believe me, I did at times. I used my hydraulic jack handle, I put this through the jackshaft opening (from the chaincase side) and knocked out the old bearing (on the secondary side). Remember as Skydog mentioned, this is the tapered bearing, you must install the correct side or big side outward.
