mc426, I ended up switching dealers for the rage purchase to a dealer in Macedon, fairly new dealer at least in the same location. I guess it is not really fair of me to say dealer issue's more of mechanics don't seem to have a clue. As of right now I am pretty sure my next dealer won't be this one.
How about your dealer???? Need a dealer that has mechanics that are good?
Had the sled in multiple times for TORS issue, which they couldn't fix, now it might appear the carbs or something is off as well, not to mention other issue's.

My Rage was faster than all the other RS sleds at the local radar runs this weekend. Topped out at 94mph on glare ice with no pics. Vectors were running 93 and under. Also saw 115 on the speedo while going down the lake. I've got 650 miles on.

Yesterday hit 113 on lake and climbing the more broke in it gets the faster its going and if I would have had more room or more balls...I may have hit 116 I think..cause it was still climbing it seemed. also raced many machines and I keep beating every 700 ski-doo out there. beat a 800 polaris(xcr?) everytime, a zr 900 till 90-95 then he caught me but by then I had crossed finish line, a 800 ski-doo till 80 then he passed me...only 700 I cant beat stock so far seems to be an F7ext cat, unless I get him on hook up. But overall the F7 is quick and runs like at least an 800cc in my opinion and would be a better match for an rx1 or Warrior. My sled has no studs and I have been racing on lake with hardpack snow cover.

Can you explain how these settings would affect top end speed? I am not doubting that they do, I would just like to understand the science behind it I guess.
Like Toys R says but another very important factor is ski down force. Heavy ski force is a power robber besides the fact that you are unloading the front of your track and losing traction.
How are your RPM's? You want the thing to go to 8500 and stay there. An over or under rev indicates that you need to change weight on the tips or change your gearing.
If your secondary is hot after a high speed run that indicates your belt is slipping. You can also draw a line on the inside of your sheeves with a marker or paint pen to see how far you are shifting out.

Tork, I have not actually checked the RPM's I will definately keep that in mind when we get enough snow to get back out there. From what I am hearing the more miles the smoother/faster the sled is going to ride/run. Right now I have under 400 miles so I am really just getting used to how it handles and runs. Next time out I am really going to check the rpms as well as the ski tension and hopefully that is the issue.

This past weeked I raced my friend's 2002 polaris 800 on a wide trail and on the lake. 1st run was on the trail. His sled was set on the regular fuel setting. I got a much better jump of off the line and pulled ahead of him about 2 to 3 sled lenghts until over the 1/4 mile or so the run was. Second run had his fuel switch on premium. I got a better launch again (121 vs. 136 ripsaw i guess) and was able to pull ahead of him a bit. He gaining on me at the end but by that time the speedo read 104. The Third run on the trail actually saw him get a good jump. He pulled one sled length ahead of me right from the start, I reeled him in at around 60 we were neck and neck for some time but then he started slowly edging ahead around 95 to 100. This was an 800 that's supposed to make 135 hp.
HOWEVER, on the lake. Up Here in the Keewenaw the lakes have lots of powder. I raced him for about 3/4 of a miles on lake medora near copper harbor. It had been in the 40s for several straight days so the powder was really heavy. Anyway, I got the jump off the line held him until about 45 or 50 and then he was gone. It wasn't even close on the lake. He topped out a little over 100 I could only manage a partry 91, that's it 91 floored after going 3/4 of a mile. The bottom line is the rage doesn't speed though soft snow well compared to other sleds. A couple more runs ended up the same. Also, with my riding style which is 70 to 85 on the straights I get about 15 mpg on the nose, which is better than the 8 to 11 my rod throwing 700 xc got.

limiter straps
That's not true the tighter you have your limiter straps the more drag you have it's the other way around. If you tighten your limiters you will lose weight transher but you will not have so munch friction on your track and slides. It's a little speed run secret. If you go to big event's and look at some speed run sleds you will see only the back 20" of the track on the ground or so.But if your drag racing it's a different story you want to get out in front first.

jruffel, I actually bought mine from a friend who is a manager at a dealership in Buffalo. But I need to get my clutch shimmed and I was going to bring it to Filers.I was a little nervous about there service department and now that you say they screwed up your set up I will be going elsewhere.Probably to Stones in Sodus they are good.

well finally got enough snow today to actually give the sled a run. Held her for a solid mile and all I was able to do was 92mph, the sad part is multiple 500's passed me. Heading to another dealer tomorrow to get this thing taken care of thinking of Hollink in spencerport.
Checked the RPM's and they are running good, the sleds sounds fine and doesn't seem to skip a beat. The hole shot of this sled is incredible just the midrange and top end is horrible.

Well just came back from trip to Quebec, and yet again the Rage is not running correct. Still the the TORS issue and now the sled won't reach 8 grand for top end. Is there a Lemon Law Associated to snowmobiles? Called dealer today, they contacted Yamaha and are going to replace the computer and re-sync carbs. Will let you know this weekend, riding Tug hill.

Do you know if its set up for the right altitude? If it's set for high altitude you're gonna lose alot of power. The engine simply wont get enough fuel for the given amount of air. Provided its not too leaned out you should get better slightly mileage and it should be harder to start. Your clutch settings would be different too, although I'd expected it to run too high a rpm for high alt clutching. As far as top speed goes... its been snowing prettry consitently here in the UP and the trails are powdery. The result is I have been unable to break 97 for 2 weeks (usually 93 to 95), Couldn't even hit 90 on the lake.

RSRager, The only reason you hit 115 was because you caught my draft as I went by on the Warrior. Oh, tell everyone who won our last sprint race, despite our weight difference. Who's the man? Who's your daddy?
