Who here has split the Winder primary? I've attempted one, but found they are far tighter than the other style Yamaha primary. I'm having tools custom made right now.
I have some Winders approaching the mileage where the spider buttons and 0-rings need replaced.
Please don't turn this into a thread of suggesting to scrap it and buy a different clutch, thx.

Probably has white lock tight like the apex clutches, just heat the spider up a bit and try it, if it doesn't go stop and use more heatWho here has split the Winder primary? Did one last winter. It took quite a bit of heat and a long cheater bar, but it eventually surrendered.

Ok, I'll use an infrared gun as I heat it, how hot is too hot.
What temp should the loctite let go?
I'll post pics of the tools I'm having made sometime.

Just pull the rollers and plastic washers before heating IMO. Don’t think I could trust myself to not hit those with a torch? Lol

That hold down tool is important. I have the cat version and it’s slick ! SLP. Holding the clutch down snug so it doesn’t jump the cogs (when torque is applied with breaker bar) is a must.. Never a Yamaha but did some cats.

- Sidewinder, SR Viper XTX, SR Viper XTX, 2016 Apex XTX and Pro-Line Pro Stock 1000
Taken 100's of these apart.
Gotta heat the spyder really good.
SW clutches have normal right hand thread, where the previous styles (Apex,Viper,Nytro,SRX,...etc) have left handed thread.

Thanks all, looks like I'm just not heating the spider enough. I've split hundreds of other clutches also, including all other brands, just haven't came across anything this tight.
Working on the bottom holder, then I'll give it a go.

Finished the tools except for painting.
Split the clutch easy now!
Super handy having that 4x4 steel post sticking out of my floor that goes down over 3 feet.
